Yes, it is the only verification that you are free and legally able to marry that they will accept. Otherwise, your petition will be denied.

Is this fa real?I am earlier in the K1 process and at some point in time i might have to apply for the no-impediment as well.even though in my situation i don't believe it proves anything.I could have certain that the No-impediment that the registrar general department (rgd) issue proves that a person has "NEVER" been married, maybe i got it all wrong.if i do someone please correct me.in my case am divorce.the no-impediment would indicate a marriage found and i was told by a staff at rgd that i still would need to provide my divorce decree at the interview and this info cannot be updated in their system.anyone know anything about this?

Here is the list of requirements at interview. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/307713-jamaica-packet-3/

Nothing ever makes sense, but if it required and not provided, it is a denial.

It shows that you are FREE to marry no existing marriages as it is illegal to be married to two different people at the same time. So if you are the fiancé living in JA then yes go get the non impediment to prove you ate now single and FREE to marry

It does not matter male or female, any JA resident (or beneficiary) must have the non-impediment certificate. The certificate takes a while to obtain, so it is important that you apply for ASAP. It is expensive as well. $5000 JMD

My fiancée is at the red as we speak. They told her the certificate cost $5000. And it would be 5 to 7 days and expedite is $6600 and takes 2 to 3 days. This is in Kingston, well, really Spanish Town. Just got my NOA2 hard copy in the mail today. All my paperwork is done and waiting for NVC#. Not wasting any time here.

I would apply once you get NOA2 - They do expire, so you don't want to get it too far in advance and have to do it again.
