Line 40: Application Prepared By:

The form appears to be only printable directly from a computer to a printer. If it could be saved as a .PDF file then Juliet could simply take the prepared form on a pen drive to an internet cafe and get it printed. But this does not seem to be possible.

Therefore there seems to be only two options: 1) Buy a printer, and print it. Or 2) Have Steve fill out the form, print the unsigned form and mail it to Juliet along with the other documents necessary for the beneficiary.

If I go with option 2 then I have "prepared" the form and must fill line 40 out.

Will this in any way delay or create some red flag?

Thanks

37. Are Any of The Following Persons in The U.S., or Do They Have U.S. Legal Permanent Residence or U.S. Citizenship?
Mark YES or NO and indicate that person's status in the U.S. (i.e., U.S. legal permanent resident, U.S. citizen, visiting, studying, working, etc.).

Juliet has a sister in the US, purportedly with a 10 year b1 visa. When asked what her status was the sister responded: "Don't fill that out, because it will delay things."

Well, I'm not about to lie or have Juliet lie on a Federal document and so my suggestion to Juliet will be to check the (sister) box and simply put: "working."

Will this response in fact delay things?

At first I wondered if the sister did not have a proper visa. However a few months ago she left America, visited RP (Republic of Philippines) and returned to America. If her Visa was not in order she would never have been allowed to return. So I'm mystified as why she would suggest that we not answer this.

Any thoughts from you VJ'ers who are wise in these matters?

Thanks

Never, ever lie, I don't see why putting her sister's status would delay anything. Even if were were to delay the process, why on Earth would you take the chance in lying?

You can actually save the printable version and send her the document via e-mail. She can print it then and sign it. No need to fill up the statement that says you prepared it. I mean they will never know since it is printed from a printer that isn't traceable. However, do tell her to study what is in the document as there are some questions from the consul that she might have a hard time answering if she didn't fill up the form. Those questions are from the DS 156 too so just have her read and familiarize some things. Good luck :)

Mimolicious is right and what you did is also correct. I mean I'd rather have a delay than a permanent ban because I lied to the state. Ask her sister what is her status though. They might just ask extra questions about what her sister might be doing there and what not so she should be prepared to answer :)

The DS-156K creates a barcode after you answer the questions which is why it can't be saved.

Your fiancée could complete the form at an internet café and then print it, just another option. One more thought is you completing the form then scanning and saving it as a .PDF file, then email that file to your fiancée to print.

Lastly, don't worry about line 40 - not intended for you. Leave it blank

I 2nd, 3rd and 4th what others have said - Don' lie!

As for honestly answering the question; you answer YES, then you be honest and state her status is a B1 visa. Can you honestly say what she is doing while in the States? Do you know for fact? If you don't know what she is actually doing while in the USA, they put UNKNOWN

The DS-156 generates a bar code, but it can be saved and printed out later. Once the form with bar code is generated, save as pdf and email and print when needed. The DS-156K is a short form that accompanies the DS-156 and can definitely be saved and printed later.
