Transfer requests

Just want to be on top of things when things start getting forwarded to the various consulates. When you put in a transfer request, does the address you provide have to be a residential address or is a business address okay?

I'm far from my approval dates but want to be as knowledgable and prepared when my case is approved.

The company I work for has a Vancouver branch that could easily interoffice me any consulate mail through overnight packages to Toronto (totally secure, no chance of it getting lost since we deal with sensitive financial information). Could I just put the company's Vancouver address in the transfer request then?

Well i think it's important to have a REASON why the transfer. Everyone I've heard of their reasons are either "we'll be visiting family" or "it's easier to stay with family" or what have you. But that's just what I've viewed from her. Truthfully, from my experience, they seem ridiculously leniant about the whole transfer thing. They didn't even KNOW our new address until after the case had been transferred.

Oh, I can easily tell them that my "reason" will be that I'll be working out of the Vancouver branch for a little while... I am *so* willing to pay extra to travel to Vancouver if that means a speedy interview date than saving a few bucks and waiting months for Montreal.

I wasn't required to give an address out west, you may need to either You may just want to ask for a Transfer! THAN if they ask why, etc tell them all that!

I stressed myself totally out about the whole transfer, address thing

and it was SO easy

Bumping this since I got NOA2 on January 9. :happy dance:

So my K3 is on it's way to NVC and hopefully just a short pitstop before it gets forwarded. I'll start calling them on Monday to see if it's been received/forwarded, etc.

Okay, I have read a number of ways to request a transfer (wait for packet 3 then call or call and request once it gets there) but, has anyone successfully received a transfer direct from NVC? If so, how would I do that?

Or should I just wait until Montreal receives it and then just call and ask to transfer to Vancouver? Ideally, it would be nice if I didn't have to give an address out west like in Jimmy's case but I have one if I need to. I noticed there's also an additional form that Vancouver issues out with Packet 3 that Montreal doesn't so I'd like the Packet 3 to come directly from them.

Any additional advice or suggestions or comments?

I tried to catch them at the NVC and just missed it by a few hours the guy on the phone said. Turthfully, it was to Montreal in 1-2 days and they transfer it electronically, so it didn't really add that much time at all, and was probably easier explaining it to Vancouver/Montreal than explaining it to the NVC.

I wonder if I should even try to catch it at the NVC because as Jimmy the American said, Montreal transferred it without even asking for an address out west (that would be ideal for me). It might be easier to wait until it gets to Montreal. Oh this process just makes me all neurotic and crazy!

I have a copy of that additional form (OF-167) that Vancouver uses. I had them email it to me when I transferred. If you ever want a copy, let me know and I can post it for you.

I'd be wary of trying to change at the NVC level. I called to change my address when my case was there, and they never forwarded my new address to Montreal, which held me up as far as getting packet 3. Best of luck with whatever you decide!

Thanks mercy, good to know about trying to change at the NVC level. I'll just wait until it gets to Montreal and then call them for a transfer. I wonder if they're happy doing transfers, without question, because they're so overloaded?

I really don't think they care much about doing transfers, they are probably happy to have one less case

Thank you! And I ended up getting a residential addy in case they need it. Someone that works in our Vancouver branch so I've got that covered. Just gotta stay patient until my case is received at NVC and then forwarded to Montreal.

Alrighty, I just got off the phone with Montreal after getting my case number from NVC. Both very pleasant conversations and I was surprised how helpful the NVC person was.

Anyway, Montreal hasn't received my paper case yet (they said by the end of the week at the latest) but they have my electronic case. I asked if I could have it transferred to Vancouver and she said, "hang on, yup, you were born in Canada, Canadian citizen, that's no problem, just fax me you request and we'll send it when the paper case comes in". I guess they don't do phone transfers anymore? Or maybe if the paper case is already there. Anyway, I'm faxing her my request now. They didn't ask for an out west address.

Or maybe she's transferring it electronically first and then going to transfer the paper when it comes in. Anyhoo, I'm going to call Montreal (and Vancouver) on Monday.

In case anyone is reading this, I've had a little bit of a delay with my transfer. I'm not sure why...

I called Montreal on January 17 and the woman said no problem and to fax in my request. I emailed them just to confirm and whoever answered my email said that Vancouver had to request it for me. So I emailed Vancouver on Friday (January 19) and no response from them yet.

I called Montreal again today and the girl on the phone said that my faxed transfer request is probably in the "inbox" and to check back in a week! No one I talked to suggested they could just send the data load to Vancouver right away or not. I'm going to call Vancouver tomorrow and the Montreal again on Wednesday since that will be a week from when I faxed my request.

Any thoughts, suggestions, advice? It just seems they're taking a little long to just transfer my case...

Sorry I don't have any advice, I was just reading through the thread and wanted to wish you good luck!!! Hopefully when you call Vancouver they will be able to tell you something!
