For in its aftermath, many minority individuals across the US will wonder whether they would be free to defend themselves if accosted or if they could be killed and whether a claim of self-defense would be used to protect their killer, even if he chose to initiate the confrontation.

Sadly, this case has made it clear that the US has far to go in its quest for racial harmony.

BS. Minority individuals have as much right as anyone else to defend themselves and they do it ALL THE TIME. The difference is that there are no "civil rights" marches for the dead perp when a black criminal gets shot by a black victim.

Good for her and welcome to Texas for him. There is no way that this (gasp - black OMG) lady is going to be indicted for shooting this dirtbag

Police have not charged the shooter and said the case would be referred to a grand jury.

"I think it's clearly justified. If she was in reasonable fear that deadly force was going to be used on her or the threat of deadly force,” said legal analyst Gerald Treece. “She just got hit, she can use deadly force in return."

My dad (a Brown) has been pulled over multiple times in some of the podunk, one-horse towns near where I grew up for the sin of Driving a Volvo While Brown.

post removed and returned minus ethnic slur.

It is really funny when the same civil rights leader who organized the march over the death of a black man in Florida also stood up and supported the right of a black woman to walk back to her car, get a gun, and shoot a black man in Texas

I guess it isn't about guilt or innocence at all. Civil rights to shoot black people are dependent on the race of the shooter
