You mean, you didn't realize MOST companies in the US are already doing this???

I think the difference is that now they will be REQUIRED to do so, and MOST will become ALL.

How do you do it, can you post the link or tell us how you can encrypt our email messages.

Then I guess it's a good thing then that we can PGP encrypt all our emails with a key

long enough that even the fastest NSA computer could not crack it in a billion years?

Gone but not Forgotten!

The basic idea is simple.

You have a private key and a public key. (A "key" is just a fancy name for

a long string of 0's and 1's.)

You keep the private key secret and give the public key to your friends.

The public key is all that is required to send you encrypted email. The encryption

works one-way so you can only *encrypt* a message using a public key but you

cannot decrypt it. To decrypt it, you need the private key (which corresponds to

the public key.)

That's it, basically. You can upload your public key to a public key server, or

publish it on your web site or whatever. Anyone can use your public key to send

you encrypted email, but it's not enough to decrypt it. Companies can intercept,

archive, do whatever they want with your email, but without the private key it's

useless.

Google "PGP".

WASHINGTON - U.S. companies will need to keep track of all the e-mails, instant messages and other electronic documents generated by their employees thanks to new federal rules that go into effect Friday, legal experts say.

You mean, you didn't realize MOST companies in the US are already doing this???

And if you are using a corporate computer, owned by your employer, they have every right to see, review, monitor, etc, all the emails, IM's, websites that you visit, etc.

You didn't know this???

hmmmmmmmmmmmm...
