Part of the value of a buy back program is knowing your gun is not going to shot someone. The money is an added bonus.

also part of the value of a buy back program is it's a great way for criminals to dispose of the murder weapon as there are no questions asked.

rob someone's house and get their guns - and then sell them to the buy back program for cash! dancin5hr.gif

yeah, so much win in that program.

The thread where he talks about buy backs in some state.

A "buy back" is a state or local government program where the government purchases privately owned firearms for a fixed price. Usually $50 cash or a gift card.

Often private buyers are right across the street offering double or triple what the government is offering.

Guns are back. Ammo still short but coming back

Need to start looking again for that AR.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

This is a good point. Its too bad the previous owner was careless with their gun or sold it to a less than reputable person. The person who initially bought the gun prob should have sold it to the buy back program instead of someone offering twice the price.

buy backs are conducted by the local/state government. it's not the same as

that is what we've been trying to get across to you. a local gun market is private/retail sellers.

yeah , so elderly widows who don't use the Internet are fair game? Shame on you,

I bet Gary has a hard on right now.

We get it - in your opinion it would have been better for the lady to take the $50 from the government than accept $100 from an individual.

Its better to have $50 and a destroyed gun than $100 and a gun in the hands with someone who didn't want to bother going through a background check or registration, or really any type of check.

Then change the law (if you can).

BTW - if I buy a firearm from any gun store in Georgia I don't go through a background check.

personally i think the buy back is a bad idea all around - nor would i buy one from someone wanting to sell one to a buy back program - never know its history.

Oh the predictable smugness of the gunners sitting on high with their impenetrable fortress of special interest group funded political swagger. Yeah, the NRA has bought and paid for enough elections to keep any type gun legislation or discussion off the horizon for the foreseeable future, regardless of popular thought. Pat yourselves on the back you've actually said F you to majority rules.

Read his post in another thread. The widower was offering the gun for $5o , not the government and he offered a slightly higher price knowing it was worth much more. He gloated.

It makes for a good story in the paper on a slow news day. 300+ million guns in this country. They aren't going anywhere any time soon. Simple reality.
