Is filing forms in person possible to avoid aging out of CSPA??

Does anybody know if documents such as I-130 and I-485 can be submitted in person?

Due to a variety of circumstances, next month my stepchild will have only three business days (and a weekend) before he "ages" out (becomes 21) to file these forms. We obviously want him to qualify for the benefits of the CSPA, and I don't think I can rely on the mail for this. And if the forms can be filed in person, is there any way to assure they are processed as quickly as possible?

hi

nope, everything must be mailed, it isn't sent to a local office, for example to a PO Box in Chicago, Arizona, or other places depending on where you live

you have to check on the instructions of the i485 where you have to mail the AOS packet

there's a coupla other things to chase after.

USCIS folk USED to help out with age-out cases, when on the edge,

if

when filing, it was blatantly obvious...

Phrase 'Please expedite, possible age out'

written in red letters on the outside of the envelope

and on the cover letter

and on the edge of both forms, page 1.

-----

Sounds like you not wish to file until thte child is actually in the country,

so,

what's up with getting the child in the country? I'd move heaven and earth, to buy 3 weeks.

I see they have an Express mail and commercial courier delivery address in Chicago - the 'Please Expedite' won't help, since the "age-out" is determined ONLY by whether it gets there in time or not.

But an I-130 can be filed NOW, can't it? - I don't believe he needs to be in the country. Was he under eighteen at the time you married? Why haven't you ALREADY filed?

Randy - he's writing of I-130 and I-485 filed together and not writing of the basis ..

So I am assuming the basis to be a tourist visa.

Yes under 18 at time of marriage and here now. Please excuse my being slightly cryptic, I hope you guys understand...

So Darnell, they USED to help? But not now? I know the mailing address is a lockbox, but that in and of itself doesn't preclude an in-person filing if USCIS would allow it in some way, shape, or form. An older VJ post suggested an in-person drop off for a similar situation, but I don't know whether that was reliable information, and if so, whether it still pertains now. I will have only 3 business days (with a weekend in between). Anybody have further thoughts?

I say it used to help, but that was before DACA slowed down case processing at CSC.

I think, still, if you rig the packet the way I've described, you'll be OK.

FWIW, to do any walk in, must to have an infopass appointment, and those take some time to get.

Most local USCIS offices are open on Saturday, so if you want to give it a try FIRST THING saturday morning at yer local office, I say go for it, without an INFOPASS appointment, and tell the guard at the front

that it's an emergency, and that you have to talk with an IO immediately due to an age out problem. Have the entire set of documents in yer hand, just in case the take it.

So that's an infopass appointment at a local office where I live, rather than "near" the lockbox in Chicago, right?

And would you do both: (1) Overnight send out the package (rigged your way) during that few day window I have and hope they process/file it on time, and (2) just to make sure, also try to do the infopass thing during that same few day window so I could give it to an IO personally? Or would that "overkill" potentially muck up everything? I have a few weeks before that short window occurs so I probably could make that appointment now.

BTW, on the USCIS website infopass section, it states:

Filing an application in person Most applications must be e-filed or filed by mail at our Service Centers or National Benefit Center. Please click the following link to check what applications are accepted at your local office.

And clicking on that link just brings me to the forms page, listing everything but nothing specific to the NY office.

ya, local USCIS office near where you live.

If you want to attempt the belt and suspenders approach, and do both - by all means.

It might be double monies, but hey... IIRC, USCIS never gives refunds ... unless it's something special..

Being cryptic will get you the wrong answer and waste a lot of time.

Provide good and complete information will speed up getting you the right answer.

First, is your stepson here legally? If he is not in status, he cannot adjust.

Yes he is here legally.

aaron2020, I have given enough information for knowledgeable people to answer my question correctly. I am not being misleading - only being minimally cryptic because my predicament is a delicate one.

There is an address for express mail or courier delivery of the documents at the lockbox location. Do you think I can have forms dropped in person by a friend acting as a courier?
