Hi, my fiance just sent our package to the express lockbox last july 19th. It's been 6 days and we still haven't received any email receipt that the facility received it. Is that normal? And how can i know which service center should we follow up our case with. We're really lost :( he luves in Atascadero, CA. Please help:(

You sent it on June 19th? Well, from what I see its only been 4 business days (Don't count weekend days) It can take a week or even a month but normally it is a week or 2. Just be patient, this is the first step in a long journey. Patient is something you really 'lots' of!! This is not a quick process, and even if you pass one hurdle fairly quickly its seem to make up for it in another step. In this day of 'instant technology' we are spoiled with instant replies and stuff. I would suggest you start getting the next set of docs ready for after your NOA2 and then just try and keep your mind off of it for a while. In my situation, I tried to stay off of VJ as much as possible because it really caused me undo distress and worries, BUT, that is just me. Good luck in your journey!!!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but typically the timeline goes much like this:

  • Send Petition
  • Receive Electronic Notification of acceptance [Typically within 24-48 hours of your file being delivered to the drop box -- varies on postal delivery]
  • Receive NoA1 [Typically within 1-2 Weeks]
  • Wait...
  • Wait some more...
  • Keep waiting...
  • Wait some more... & when you're ready to tear your hair out or go stalk the USCIS office closest to you....
  • IF APPLICABLE
    • Electronic Notification of Transfer (email 1)
    • Electronic Notification of File being mail (email 2) [Typically within hours of email 1]
    • Receive NoA-T (Notice of Action Transfer) [Typically 1-2 weeks from email 1]
    • Electronic Notification of file received at new Service Center. [Typically 1-2 weeks from email 1]
  • RFE / Decision [Varies, but the Federal goal is 5 months, check processing times for your center -- note these do change regularly]
  • IF APPLICABLE
    1. Electronic Notification of RFE
    2. RFE in Snail Mail [Typically in about 2 weeks]
    3. Mail in RFE Response [Varies on you]
    4. RFE Response Review [Typically within a week of them receiving your RFE Response, but it can vary]
    5. Decision [usually with 1 week of RFE Response Review, but it can vary]
  • Electronic Notification of your file being sent to NVC [typically 1-2 weeks]
  • Stalk NVC for Case number [2-6 weeks, used to be typically 2 weeks, recently they seem to be slow -- may change]
  • NVC Forwards your case to the Beneficiary's Embassy/Consulate [typically 2 week]
  • Embassy sends packet 3 [typically within a week of file being transferred]
  • Mail back completed Packet 3 [Depends on you]
  • Embassy sends packet 4 & Interview is scheduled [typically within 1-2 weeks of receiving packet 3]
  • Interview [Varies... depends on consulate/embassy, I would recommend checking your country's reviews to find out]
  • Visa is issued / Denial reason given / RFE
  • If Visa is issued, Visa is available for pickup/mailed [Typically within 2 weeks, but varies on embassy/consulate]

Don't worry too much. Did you receive a tracking number from the post office or shipping service you used (so you know it has actually arrived)? Like others said, it usually takes from a week to a month to hear anything. Also, check your bank account for the funds to be withdrawn. I'm in the same boat. I sent in our papers and such for our adjustment of status for my wife (she came on a K1 also) the same day as you. Don't worry too much, things will be fine.

Thank you for your replies. I guess i have no choice but to be really patient. Haha! Thanks again. I'll come back to you guys after a week, if i'm not yet crazy by then coz of waiting. ???

but i have one additional question, how will i now the service center where i'll have to follow my case with. I saw timeframes and all here in VJ basing on the service center and i just assumed that it's the California one oz my fiance is on that stae but actually i really dont have a clue. ???

My fiance got a receipt from the post office with i think the tracking number, but he lost it. Lol but he'll go to the post office today and check the shipment status. ?

Good to know you processed yours the same day we did, maybe we can keep in touch with each other's updates and see if we'll be at the same page. ?

Thanks for the reply ?

You will receive a NOA1 notice from USCIS in the mail and it will state which center your petition is at. Yes, you really need to practice your patience skills. They will be put to the test for sure!! I didn't join VJ until May of this year and I sent my packet out in Dec of 2013. Not to 'bash' VJ but I really had little problems or worries until I joined and started reading all the problems and worries that everyone had. BUT this site is just awesome in many respects just give yourself a break and realize 'nothing' in our lovely government goes quickly!!! Good luck and God bless!!

It will say so on your NoA1, but you're in California so you'll most likely be in the California Service center.

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
