Hi, I'm about to assemble all my CR-1 Visa package and i have some question about the copy... since the guide i'm following here doesn't say if i need Certified True Copies of the following or if its ok just to copy if myself (photocopy or scanning).

4. Copy of the full Birth certificate (front and back) for the US Citizen or a copy of ALL pages of the US Citizen's passport. This is used to establish citizenship.

5. A copy of petitioner's proof of naturalization. (If applicable)

6. A copy of petitioner's proof of permanent residency. (If applicable)

8. A copy of your marriage certificate (If not inEnglish then again get a translation)

base on this guide: http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide1

I have a certified copy of my Birth Certificate i can just put that in...but the naturalization i don't, and married certificate i don't as well... I can get a naturalization true copy (i guess if i go to a notary) but the marriage one is from my country which i don't have the true certificate right now.. i'm just concern that if i give my original i won't get it back, and is the original that important or as long as i have access to the true certificate on my country that i would be ok without the original on my hands...

Side question: The proof of permanent residency? would my naturalization cover that or what do i need to prove that? Driver's lincense?

Thanks guys smile.png

Unless they specifically ask for an original document a copy is fine. This is specified in the instructions under the title Copies and it states this very thing (it's on page 2 under General Instructions for the i-130 form). You are proving you are a USC not a LPR so your naturalization will prove you are a USC so there is no need to prove that you are a LPR as you are not, you are a USC.

Good luck,

Dave

When you and the struction say copy... do i need a Certified True Copies? Doesn't say on the instruction here http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-130instr.pdf

So i can just copy it at home or go to staples and get it copy there?

"Copies.

Unless specifically required that an original document
be filed with an application or petition, a legible photocopy
may be submitted. Original documents submitted when not
required may remain a part of the record, and will not

automatically be returned to you"

"2. A copy of your naturalization certificate or certificate of
citizenship issued by USCIS or the former INS."
"A. A copy of your marriage certificate."

So "a legible photocopy" is good!!!

Another Question well i have called them and i'm not going with the Naturalization Certificate becuasue by law only USCI can make copy of those for the purpose i'm going to be using... so i will just copy my US PASSPORT. (i called USCI, but on the instruction on the official I30 doesn't say all pages..)

"4.A copy of your unexpired U.S. passport; or" (Ofiicial)

Do I really need "copy of ALL pages of the US Citizen's passport. This is used to establish citizenship." base on the guide on this site?

Or just the Main one with my pictures and posibbly the pages with stamps... (I'm ok with copying everything but i just don't want to overdo it for the people looking at my packages).

The biometrics page (face page) is all they want to see. Now some people like to send them a copy of every page just to be safe but other than the face page the others do not establish your identity/citizenship.

1) you are assembling a i-130 petition package not a CR1 package. The CR1 is the visa that is granted after the interview to couples who are married less than 2 years. It continues to be a CR1 if the beneficiary enters the USA before the 2 year anniversary.

2) unless an item is signed, it should be a photocopy for the USCIS stage. It doesn't need to be a certified copy (which is a copy from the issuing agency) or a notarized copy. A normal photocopy or scan and print from a home computer is fine, the only requirement being legibility.

3) if you decide to send a photocopy of your passport you must send all the pages of the passport as per the instructions.

You do not have to photocopy all the pages in your passport. Nor do you have to photocopy the back of your birth certificate. (Although doing these things won't hurt.) They just want the page with your biographical information showing where you were born and are a US Citizen.

3) if you decide to send a photocopy of your passport you must send all the pages of the passport as per the instructions.

Although the instructions on this site say this, the official instructions on the USCIS site do not.

The instructions on this site say this. But the official instructions on the USCIS site do not say that.

thanks :)

That's what i thought aswell because i was reading the official instruction from uscis...

Actually it does.. here let me highlight:

passport.jpg

When it says a copy of your passport it does not say a copy of the biographical data page of your passport, it says a copy of your passport. I specify this because in the DS-230 instructions for documents to send to the NVC it specifically says a photocopy of the bio data page of the beneficiary's passport. Granted these are two different departments in the US government but read carefully, interpret literally.
