I am planning to visit my family in the Philippines next month while my husband is still doing his military training. I received my conditional gc last May. I am planning to stay outside the country for 6 weeks. My questions are:

1) What are the documents needed for me to bring aside from my passport, greencard and marriage contract?

2) My husband is worried about me might facing some problems applying later for citizenship. I believe that gc thru marriage, I can apply for US citizenship after 3 years- from d date of conditional gc ( Please correct me if I'm wrong). Will I still be eligible for that 3 years if I'll go out of the country for few weeks?

And is there anyone here who had some troubles coming back here using a conditional gc?

Any information will be greatly appreciated. THANKS A lot!!

That should be it. You wouldn't even need the marriage contract unless your name change is done through that and your passport still shows your maiden name. Then yes, bring that as well.

Your husband's fears are unwarranted. A green card holder (even the conditional one) is allowed to be outside the US for no more than 6 months out of every year without it interfering with their citizenship application later on. It is only when you intend to leave for more than 6 months in a 1 year period that you would need to apply for Travel document beforehand, so that your GC status is put on hold while you're outside the country, and you can resume it when you return.

It's important to note that "Conditional GC" doesn't mean that you don't get the full benefits of a regular GC holder. It only simply means that there is a condition for you to continue being eligible for the GC, and that is that you need to stay married to your husband for 2 years.

Please note that I am no attorney or immigrations specialist or anything. This is just what I recall from the vast collection of info that I have read about the topic. (Then again that can be said about pretty much everybody on these forums).

Hi, you don't have to worry about to travel outside US as long as you have your GC with you along with your passport, when I got my GC last year, I went back to Philippines to assist my kids visa, I stayed there for more than 3 months, and I had no problem or any trouble in coming back to US. Just don't lose your GC, it is very important.
