Admiited previous drug use

Hi I hope someone can help me with my question.

So if someone admitted that they had USED drugs before to the physician during the medical? Is it automatic that they will disclose the information to the embassy right away or it will depend upon the result of the psych eval?

What are the consequences of disclosing drug use? I know that the life time ban has been lifted already, so what can possibly be the result of such? 1 year ban? 3 year ban? Or just merely visa denied? What are the factors that will affect the CO's decision? Does it matter whether the person had recently USED drugs, let's say 6 months before medical, or 5 or more years before medical? How can someone reapply or be given a chance to apply for another visa after being denied for admiiting previous drug use?

I've too many questions. I'm sorry. Any input would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

If you search about on the forums, you'll find people with previous drug uses experiences.

Generally, it means a 1 year wait, during which you need to prove you are clean if they have any doubts about your current drug use habits. The actual handling will likely differ from country to country.

Are there any related convictions or cautions? If so, never hide it. Not admitting to something that could be discovered via another method (police report, for example) is much more severe in consequence than owning up in the first place.

Essentially, admitting any past drugs use will result in a 1 to 2 year delay for any visa. Even if you tried it once in college 30 years ago, they will still deny your visa. Doesn't make any sense to me....

You will either be approved anyway without much problem, or you will get the 1 year ban and will have to prove again that you are drug free before the visa will be issued.

One post violating TOS has been removed along with two posts quoting the TOS violating post. Administrative action has also been taken.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

  • 1 month later...

I was never caught during the years I did heroin... I had my interview at the New Delhi Consulate in June 2006... I provided the police certificates dating back to when I was 10 from the cities I had lived in which were London, Mumbai and Delhi... I got my approval in September 2006 and was married in November. I had no trouble going through immigration. I did not have to go through any form of rehab; but I had been clean for more than 20 years... I wish all of you luck. For me, it was simply not worth it to lie/conceal my drug past... despite the fact that i had no desire to live in America and still have no desire to live here... I do love my spouse and would not want to be anywhere other than with him, even it means living in a country I can't stand!

Paul and I met on the Bazaar on the 14th January (he joined my progressive rock forum that day)

July 3rd he flew to England to meet me

We fell in love while he drove all over the place coz I cannot read maps (we were supposed to go to Ingleton - but touched Darlington 4 times, Pierce Bridge 6 times, Scotch Corner twice and Bernard Castle twice and we never did make it to Ingleton)

It has been so long and so much has happened in between...

Arrived in Houston on October 29th 2006

Married 17th November 2006

Lost my father 8th January 2007 (all dates are a blur after this)

Conditional Green Card dated 24th October 2007

I-751 posted on 6th August 2009

Received on 7th August 2009 in VT

I had this problem. I admited in the medical interview that i had tried once weed when was in holland, at tourism. They asked for a toxiologic test - a hair test - that cover the period of one year. It was negative. I hope that this subject would not brought to the interview because it is an additional source of stress. It really seems too harsh deny a visa for a minor issue long time before. Specially about weed, that is already legally sold in a couple of states within USA.

If there is long time since you experienced and if you dont have any police record about it, i personaly would recomend to no say anything. The test is expansive and in some places take a long time to get the result. But i havent got my interview yet. So i would appreciate to hear someone who had this experience with minor experiences to see how it come out.
