So it took just over a month to get it. (5.5 weeks approx) In the meantime did she get her SSN in the mail or did she have to apply for it?

The ELIS site actually tells you when the USCIS receives your case when it switches to "optimized" from "accepted".

It takes from 3-5 weeks to be "optimized" and then another few days to a week or so to be closed. You should have the green card within 8 weeks, but most take 4-6 right now.

Did you sign up on ELIS to receive cellphone txt and email notifications of status updates?

We signed up on ELIS to receive cellphone txt notifications and also signed up on the USCIS website for Cellphone and email notifications, ELIS for my cellphone and USCIS website for my wife's cellphone and email address. ELIS sends txt notice to check your new status online, USCIS sends txt notice to check status and also sends email showing your new status if you sign up for both txt and email notices, or at least they did to us.

I used our "Receipt ID Number" we got from ELIS in the check status space on the USCIS website (and to sign up for update notices) and got the date that USCIS received our case.

But note the USCIS website did not show anything for our Receipt ID Number (showed Receipt Number not found) until just about a week before they started the card production which then showed "Inital Review".

Correct, It arrived in the mail due to my wife selecting the boxes on page 4 of her DS-230 (Application For Immigrant Visa And Alien Registration) form.

@Mar_Wil: Thanks for the information :)

I had already signed up for email confirmations for the ELIS site - i'll wait for the case to be transferred to create the account for my wifes case so i sign up there too - i already have my account, so know they give that option.

For the SS card - seems like you are one of the few who didnt have to go to the SS office to get the card... interesting :)

lubnajavid, you are welcome.

Regarding the SS Card, it does seem my wife was one of the lucky few, as I had also read posts where individuals had to go to the SS office and apply even though they had checked the boxes on their DS-230 forms requesting the SS Card.
