You mean other than taking a HUGE risk of getting denied at the interview? I'm not sure. But yeah, you'd be taking a huge risk of getting denied because of this (assuming you're adjusting from a marriage/fiance(e) based application)

Why is this a HUGE risk? Not the normal, but people do things differently and if there is a good enough reason for him to go to the job and begin earning money while she remains for another reason. Even if they were to have an interview with this condition, I would still say go ahead and do it and document the reasons. You cannot live your life in fear of how it will look to the USCIS because the OP may get an IO like you that thinks this make the relationship less bona fide or they may get an IO like me who thinks that a couple trying to committ fraud would never do anything out of the ordinary and place a larger spot light on them--YMMV.

OP: The biggest problem with changing an address during a pending application is getting mail from the USCIS as the USPS will not forward any of the letters and the change of address system does not work very well within the USCIS. So having your wife reamin until the GC arrives would actually be a good thing. IMHO I would live my life as I see fit and just have documentation to show the USCIS why those decisions were made.

Good luck,

Dave

I actually know someone who got approved for a green card after marrying his wife who continued to live in another state from the beginning of the marriage, and throughout the petition. They even had separate tax filings. I am not encouraging this, but this goes to show that every individual case is different. The biggest challenge is proving without a shadow of doubt that the marriage is bonafide. Also be ready to explain any unusual circumstances clearly.

If you do change your address, be sure to notify the USCIS about the change in ten days or less by completing Form AR-11, which can also be completed online. Failure to do this can cause you serious problems. Wish you all the best.
