I-134 Question

I see there have been lots of questions about the 134 and I now have one. I was under the impression that I didn't have to fill one out as long as I had a co-sponsor. I only have tax returns from last year, am not working because I am in England with my fiance and have been since May, and also no savings because I've spent it all staying here and not working haha. My co-sponsor makes waaaaay over the poverty level and has a very large amount of money in savings, stocks, bonds, and owns their home with no mortgage. I was looking over the form and the only thing I could fill in would be my name and info, my fiance's name and info, and the amount of life insurance I have. That's all. SOOOOOO I'm not really sure why I would need to fill in the form? It's kind of important though as our interview is on Monday and I didn't realize I'd need this until I looked on this site. If I need it I have my one tax return and a bank letter showing that I have no money in the savings account I've had open since I was 6yrs old haha. Help would be very much appreciated.

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.

The joint sponsor terminoligy is bandied about quite a bit regarding the I-134, but it is erroneous. There is no joint sponsor with the I-134, only a sponsor. Whether that be the petitioner or someone else. If the petitioner does not satisfy the financial requirements, another sponsor can be used. Quite often though an affidavit from the petitioner may also be required even though they do not meet the requirements. It is not termed as a joint sponsor, like it is with the I-864, where a joint sponsor can be used, or including the I-864A if using household income.

Amber&Neil,

If you feel it necessary to use an adjective then 'alternate sponsor' would be a more appropriate term than 'co-sponsor', for the reason that aussiewench points out.

Some visa applicants in the UK have found, by trying the experiment that I am about to suggest, that they did not need an I-134 and other financial documentation from their petitioner. They only needed the financial information for their sponsor.

I have not seen this tried often enough to advise that you do not need to provide your own financial package, but just to satisfy your own curiosity (and mine!) you might instruct your fiance to submit only your friend's financial package, keeping yours in his back pocket unless and until it is asked for.
