Out of curiosity, I googled what GZ used to call 911 about, since he called them so many times.

One was an incident where kids were playing in the street. laughing.gif Or a neighbor leaving their garage door open.

EDIT: Or someone walking around in pajama pants near a resident's house.

Kinda fits into the scared and confused category, imo. And not one mention of race.

You can only imagine his excitement when he saw a real thug making his way through the neighborhood.

Obviously paranoid as hell.

Well, according to the Miami Herald...

Interviews with neighbors reveal a pleasant young man passionate about neighborhood security who took it upon himself to do nightly patrols while he walked his dog.

Licensed to carry a firearm and a student of criminal justice, Zimmerman went door-to-door asking residents to be on the lookout, specifically referring to young black men who appeared to be outsiders, and warned that some were caught lurking, neighbors said. The self-appointed captain of the neighborhood watch program is credited with cracking some crimes, and thwarting others.

I dunno how reliable that is.

If it's the truth, there's nothing wrong with warning the neighbors and giving them the description of the lurkers, that's typical protocol. If he was making it up, that would be a whole different story.

lostinblue - IMO, 'stand your ground' doesn't apply in this particular case,

but

Texas' version of The Castle Doctrine DOES apply, as the woman was in and around her car.

In Texas, House and Car are included but...

The 'slippery slope', IMO, was that she was just outside of her car, so when the DA is looking at stuff, he's got to determine if the 'timetick' for shooting had her in/around her car for the Castle Doctrine to apply.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

I found this paragraph interesting.

“He would be the last to discriminate for any reason whatsoever,” Robert Zimmerman wrote. “One black neighbor recently interviewed said she knew everything in the media was untrue and that she would trust George with her life. Another black neighbor said that George was the only one, black or white, who came and welcomed her to the community, offering any assistance he could provide. Recently, I met two black children George invited to a social event. I asked where they met George. They responded that he was their mentor.”

Seems like real card carrying KKK member.

A true hero.

Yeah and add his recent heroic event of pulling people out of wrecked cars. Seems like the guy just keeps helping his community. Kinda sad how they repaid him for performing all his civic duties.
