Can anyone tell me if Im allowed to attend the interview in Lima, Peru with my fiance? Seems like Ive read a few post where the petitioner has attended with his fiance but some sites Ive looked at say no. Also does anyone know how long it takes to get your visa once you have passed the interview with the consulate in Lima? This would be helpful to know so I can start thinking about when I will travel from US to Lima to bring my fiance back with me and if it can all be done in one trip (interview and travel). Thanks and good luck to all.

We did an IR-1/CR-1 visa, so I don't know how different things are. I attended the interview with my wife. My sense was that it helped a little to show we were serious, but I am pretty confident she would have been approved even if I had not attended. We had our interview in Lima on Feb 20, and she received the visa in Cusco on Feb 27.

You should definitely take a look at the Embassy info for Lima here: http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/index.php?ctry=Peru&cty=Lima

Whether it's K-1 or IR/CR-1, yes, you can attend the interview as the USC. It is not required nor even highly recommended at Peru. However, it won't hurt to come along. They can ask you questions if they have any. And, as stated above, it can make you seem more serious. Plus it's good moral support for your S.O.

Assuming no hiccups, the visa should be sent to the nearest DHL office within one week of the interview.

You can absolutely attend! I'm flying down next weekend to go to my fiance's interview with him on Aug 6th! I've been investigating the second part of your question a bit to try to get an idea of when he will get his and it looks like as long as you aren't missing any documents/the medical exam when you go for the interview it takes about 2 weeks. If you have to send papers after the fact it can take 1-2 months more. I wouldn't book a flight before the interview takes place though and were actually planning on waiting until he receives the visa in his passport to book.

Some of the older threads also mention that you can request to pick up the visa (once approved) at the Lima DHL office (Callao) rather than having it sent to your Peruvian fiance(e)'s home address, which can save a few days. Good luck!

I believe that it will only go to DHL offices. I don't think they will do home delivery, no matter what province you're in.

Sorry, I should have been more specific: I meant I think you can pick it up at the DHL office in Lima, rather than waiting for it to get to the DHL office in your fiance(e)'s home town (i.e., I think you're right, yachachiq12 (as a teacher should be :) ))

This is correct... the Lima embassy makes you register with DHL and choose the office you would like your passport to be sent to. No matter what you have to go to a DHL office to pick it up... it wont be sent to your house, but Callao is the DHL hub, so all packages are sent there first and then distributed to their respective local office. If you set your pick up to Callao you can save a day or two.

We just did our K-1 interview in Lima. I was allowed at the "final" interview. It went down like this:

1. There is a huge line outside. Ignore that line, it is for the tourist visas. Walk up and ask someone up front. Tell them you are a "visa citada". Someone will come and get you and take you back.

2. Once you get back, you will be called up to hand in the completed forms, in duplicate (I forgot the duplicate, but the nice lady made copies, so no harm no foul). Then you will go pay.

3. You will go over to another window to pay. If no one is there, don't just stand there joking about not pushing the green button like we did, push the button :)

4. Soon, another lady will call your fiance(e) over. She made me take a seat. This "interview" was sort of an intake. She took all the evidence, the affidavit of financial support, etc. Then your fiance(e) will be told to have a seat.

5. Wait

6. Wait

7. Wait some more

8. Your fiance(e) will be called to a window or a little room for the interview. You can be with him/her at that time. I let me fiancee answer most of the questions, but one or two were thrown my way. In our case, I believe it definitely helped (or at least definitely did not hurt).

Good luck to you.

Oh. We got the visa about a week later.

No home delivery. It is only delivered to a selection of DHL branches throughout Lima. Part of the preparation for the interview includes creating an online account and selecting the branch you want your visa sent to. The reiterate this STRONGLY at the conclusion of the interview for you to do so right away.

Thank you for your reply it was very interesting. However, you say you "paid"............you paid a fee for the visa or what? I have read there is no fee for visas at embassy. How much was it and what form of payment do they accept?

240 dollars paid at the interview. You can pay in cash or with credit card.
