What are they looking on the chest-xray?

Hi All

Just would like to know if they are only looking for TB or anything else?

I might have a chest infection and going to my GP in the morning, so if this is the case and he prescribe antibiotics, would this delay anything?

They are looking for scars and lesions on your lungs.

Yes, it's as Harpa says - they're looking for scaring and sort of marks or whatever that may be a result of TB. They want to see nice clear lungs.

Last month, a VJ member went to the medical with a chest infection which I guess showed dark on her x-ray, and she was told to come back 6 weeks later after it had cleared up. It may cause a delay if you're quite sick and the x-ray isn't clear because of it.

well I hope it doesn't happen to me! I think my cough is just allergic. It is a dry cough as we are experiencing very hot summer and dry.

If it's just a tickly allergic cough, you'll probably be fine. I assume your GP didn't end up prescribing you anything for it?

Diath (from the post above) had proper bronchitis, which is much more severe and wouldn't have cleared up quickly by itself.

Definitely not bronchitis, just tickly cough every now and then, especially in the office with the ac blasting. I am very allergic to dust and polen, so this weather is not helping!

FlorRosa I just had my medical on Monday. The Xray guy at Knightsbridge saw a small mark in my left side but he couldn't be sure what it was so he took another one and compared them it was very very small and I didn't even see it my self and said it was probably nothing and definitely not TB! I would just go and see how it goes, I doubt a dry cough will cause anything specially if no mucus in the lung. I haven't heard anything from the surgery yet so i assume it all went well. Calling embassy next week to make sure they received my files

A little cough doesn't make scars and lesions on your lungs. Don't worry; only TB does that. The doctor can distinguish between a tickly cough and TB.

I am sure they will be able to determine the difference between even a visible chest infection and evidence of TB on the Xray. I know it is hard not to panic at the slightest hiccup that might cause a delay, however. Fingers crossed for you that it all goes smoothly and that your family is reunited soon.
