Um...No, there is no subway between those cities.

Have you looked at a map? LA and Atlanta are on complete opposite sides of the country. Assuming you mean Washington DC, or do you mean Washington State?

Least expensive will probably be bus, but it would also take you about 5 days to go from Atlanta to LA on a bus.

good luck

You're going to have to get really good at using Google, because that's a lot of information you'll need to find out. You probably want to start by getting a map and putting on it the places you want to visit - most of those are considerably long drives, so a road trip may not really be what you want (or, at least, not to those cities).

Also, search for websites like this that'll help you plan your route: https://roadtrippers.com/

If you want to drive across the country, Then you can get to all the cities. Amtrak is the only train that travels some with passengers to different parts across the country. I believe there are passenger trains are New York, Washington DC, and that part of the country. There are also subways in some cities like those and Chicago. If you don't want to spend several days driving across the country, Then you will want to fly from area to area. Websites such as travelocity, Expedia, orbitz, cheaptickets.com, Can help with looking at airfare and hotel prices.

Visiting the USA is not like visiting most countries. It's rather wide across and takes up to a week to drive from coast to coast. You may want to spend time figuring out a few places to visit and narrow it down a little.

Just so you understand the size of this type of trip here is what myself and a friend of mine did. Kansas to Washington DC and up to NYC and then Massachusetts and back in 3 weeks. Kansas to Washington state and down to LA and Las Vegas in 3 weeks. These trips involved driving about 8-10 hours per day plus a few hours for sightseeing along the way. They covered more than 5,000 miles and cost in the $2,000 range with around $2/gallon gas and early 2000's or 1990's motel rates and food prices. I would expect such a trip to now be in the $4-6,000 range. Then there is the cost of attractions. FYI: flight time between LA and NYC is about 8 hours and costs about $500 so that should give you an idea of the distances you are looking at.

If I was you, I would pick an area like NYC, Chicago and the midwest, LA and west coast, Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon, or Atlanta and Florida and only do that area. Unless you can fly to each city and rent a car, travel is going to eat into your vacation time. You need to determine the amount of time you have and then the amount of money you want to spend. Then decide what you want to see and then go onto the internet and see what attractions there are.

Just remember that GIYF.

Amtrak is a decent option. Visit their website or try Vacations by Rail. It may not be good enough but for quick visits in NYC, Chicago, and San Francisco, they offer Classic Coast to Coast by Rail.
