I'm sorry I didn't make myself clear. I'm not advocating that we charge someone unfairly because it's done to us. What I am saying is look at how the mindframe changes. How can something be right for him, but wrong if he was black? And you know just like I do that would be the case. If GZ was black and TM was white, TM"s previous activities wouldn't have been drug to the light, they would have said, it doesn't matter because he was just walking to the store. No one would have suspected him of committing a crime at 1900 with no weapons, no tools, on the phone talking to a woman, walking in the rain with a hoodie on, but for TM now, it's all a very real possiblity, by some accounts, he was on his way to a crime spree that rivaled Adam Lanza.

Again, the reason's for the unfair portrayal of TM's past being scrutinized was because of the publicity this trial received. No way around that. Have a problem with that, take it up with Al and Jesse. GZ was called everything short of a child molester. Oops, no they I think they tried that one as well.

Here is why the white community and some folks here can't see it the way I, some few folks here, and 86% of the black community can. Because in their minds, they see it as GZ minding his own business and TM pouncing on him like some animal. It doesn't happen to white folks at all. Think about it, when was the last time a white person asked you, what are you doing here? Did they follow you for 4 minutes? Did they call the cops first? Did they follow you on foot? If this was a case of TM being white, I'll bet anything that GZ would have just walked up and asked him properly if not just let him on his merry way. Which is what should have happened here. If GZ treated TM like a regular teenager, instead of a criminal, maybe TM would have responded back like a teenager instead of fighting him. Gowon hit this spot on when he said the guy walked up and asked him what was he doing there. He answered the question, something TM didn't get a chance to do.

I don't think anyone with a functioning brain cell sees this as GZ minding is own business and TM pouncing on him for no reason. TM would've had a chance to answer all the questions in the world if he didn't jump on GZ and start assaulting him. He'd still be here.

But how would you know why I was beating him. Perhaps I didn't care about the money and really hated him for being gay?

All crimes have motive, race is a motive just like robbery is a motive. I can understand why the rehabilitation part of it would be different, but I don't understand why the motive should change the severity of the sentence.

Let me ask you this. Do you think someone should get more time for beating up a 20 year old gay body builder simply because he's gay? Or should someone get more time for robbing and beating an 80 year old Grandmother?

Because when someone kills/beats up someone for a hate crime, they let you know. In almost all cases, whenever the person was gay/black/jewish/muslim/etc, the killers were screaming epithets and they can't hide their hatred. Also the severity is always worse, look up Mattew Shepard, James Byrd, and other hate crimes. They're aren't just killed, they are drug by a truck, set on fire, beaten to death with some object, dismembered.

I've been boycotting the case. It's a tragedy, but everything that could be said has been said.

No, I don't. But their should be different levels of punishments for different levels of crimes. Its obviously worse to beat down an old lady and take her money than to beat down a strapping young buck and take his money. Just like its different to beat up a kid for being black than for sleeping with your GF. Intent and motive has all sorts of precedence through out all law. Judges have some leeway on minor offenses to determine punishment based on these two things. Priors also come into consideration.

The root of the problem is that there is absolutely no evidence that points to racism in this case. Continuously pointing out racism in past cases does not make it so in this one.

The part in bold shows you had your mind made up before the trial had taken place, that's also the root of the problem. You started with race and ended with race.

Because as jaques pointed out, he made it about race when he profiled Martin. The recent rash of break ins were perpretrated by black men, that is what made Martin stand out to him.

Lot's of straight white people are tortured, beaten and killed by other straight white people. Is there no hate involved in those crimes? What do you suggest we call those crimes?

Sorry, but the rehabilitation strategy is pretty much the same across the board for all crimes. Lock 'em up and throw away the key. The crime rates are way down, so it's hard to argue against that strategy.

There hasn't been any real effort at rehabilitation in the U.S. justice system for decades.

You think applying the same punishment to all crimes is the most effective way to do things based on crime being down? Like, there aren't other factors related to that?

GZ followed TM because he looked suspiscious, that is what made TM stand out to him. GZ wasn't sure what race TM was until TM began moving up on him, it's all in the 911 call.

I'm not going to rehash this whole thing. We've beaten it to death. We have our opinions of what happened and we both know what they are.

Once again you are ignoring the settings around the questions. Why did GZ call the cops instead of just asking the dude what he was doing? Why did he follow him in the car and then on foot rather than just walking up and asking what's the deal? He could have rolled up beside him, rolled his window down and said excuse me, I'm the neighborhood watch and explained the situation to him.

It's this treatment that angers black people, you don't see it cause it never happens to you. Google bike thief experiment. I posted the video a couple of weeks ago to highlight the difference between black and white. When you see the white guy clearly stealing a bicycle, folks just keep it moving and even wish him good luck. Out of the 100 folks, only one called the cops. The black guy was about to be mobbed within a couple of seconds. Both had the same clothes on, the same tools, and the same answers. The white guy even admitted he was stealing the bike, and no one did squat.

If you treat someone like a human being, they'll act like one. I've been to the hood quite a few times and even though I see quite a few men and women that look less than stellar, I will walk up, say excuse me, conduct my business and keep it moving.

Yes Teddy, but what was Martin doing that was suspisious? just walking around looking about" in the rain and said, "This guy looks like he is up to no good or he is on drugs or something."[ Zimmerman reported that the person had his hand in his waistband and was walking around looking at homes.

I'm pretty sure when I walk I look around at my settings as well, doesn't mean I'm going to break in someone house at 7pm at night while on a cell phone.
