Sanford is nicer now than it used to be.

Rattlesnakes were common where I grew up and when someone from out of the area saw one, which inevitably got killed if it was near the house, they would then be nervous about walking around outside. Always struck me as kinda silly. I mean, you weren't nervous yesterday, and now there is one less snake.

When people see a snake and it gets killed, often they then become nervous about snakes...not having realized that the snakes were there all along and now there is one less snake, so the chances of being bitten are actually less than they were before they saw the snake that was killed.
