Are permanent residents less than 5 years in California. Is Medica l/Medicaid/ HealthyFamilies insurance for low-income families considered as a public charge benefit, as mentioned in our Affidavit of Support contract?

Medi-Cal is a means tested benefit. Medi-Cal is the California name for Medicaid.

An LPR does not qualify for Medi-Cal in the first 5 years.

The I-864 sponsors are responsible for any Medi-Cal that the LPR receives.
