As far as the "Civil War", there was no such thing in the United States. A "civil war" is when two or more political factions fight over the control of a country. England had a civil war, we did not. Russia had a civil war, Spain had a civil war...we did not.

The Confederate States did not wish to control the United States and made no attempt to do so. The term "War of Yankee Agression" was common when I was a kid in Texas, it has no basis in race. It is a physical description of what happened. Even the war was not about "race" until the "Emancipation Proclamation" which was nothing more than a speech intended to end the worst riots in history, before or since, happening in New York. It did not even free the slaves still in the United States, let alone those in another country! Missouri, Kentucky, Maryland, Delaware (slave states who never seceeded) continued to have slaves until the amendment that abolished slavery.

Attempting to make this about the membership of the NRA would be like attempting to paint anyone that likes southern cooking to be racist because of what Paula Dean said. About three clicks more stupid than Porter's comments.

The South started that war when they decided they no longer wanted to be a part of the Federal government. The issue was over states rights, largely because southern states didn't like the way the North was handling which current and future states would be able to have slaves. They knew what was on the horizon and Lincoln being elected was the tipping point. So really, if you don't want to call it the Civil war (even though that's exactly what it was considering the South was trying to take over control of a large portion of the United States) you can call it the war of Southern treason.
