If they obtained their visa thru legal channel they should have higher priority.

This is my point. No one here will disagree with this. I don't think the American populace will place the priority on it that we do. You say this sentence to someone that hasn't touched immigration (most people) i think they'll say, "what do you mean?" No way they know some people are waiting 10 years for this #######.

Thats exactly I don't believe these numbers most ppl who answer these survey has barely any idea about immigration system.

There was these article few weeks back how a special interest group had money kept for them in the current bill and these things are never even mentioned by mainstream media.

Oh if only you could limit voting to understanding of the issues. Wouldn't that be a magic place.

And that all goes back to the point I make over and over. Fix the legal immigration system FIRST, then worry about all this other stuff.

Turnout would be 2%.

Exactly my argument would be if you really just want them to bring in the system, give them legal status give them some status like H1 or something - why is path to LPR or Citizenship required that would fix the problem but neither of the party would want to do that as they do not gain any advantage from it.

I realize that might be the reason but still it make no sense at all. It sounds like another flavor of 'equal but separate' to me. IMHO we already have way too many people attempting to create castes within our country and our society. We really need to get rid of inequalities rather than just repackage them.

Well, then say that you agree with a 'path to citizenship' (whether or not people chose to take it) instead of trying to deny that another option exists.

As far as the inequality of the thing, there is extensive precedent for treating people convicted of crimes unequally. I would suggest that any illegal immigrant who wants to receive status under immigration legislation would be required to plead guilty to living in the US illegally. At that point, treating them unequally is no less just than forbidding felons from voting or owning guns.

I will say that I agree with the proposed immigration reform but I think it will be as ineffective as replacing the hardwood before fixing the leak.

It will solve nothing because the issue is and will remain at our borders.

The issue is and remains within our borders - there is demand for the labor that illegal migrants provide because the benefit of employing those illegal migrants for outweigh the risk of hiring them. There's an economic incentive for migrants to come here w/o papers. That's the issue. Address that and you won't need no stinking fence that doesn't do anyone any good anyways.

Alas, when I speak of fixing the borders I am not speaking of fences and agents. I am not talking about making it more difficult for people to get in. I think we should make it easier for people to leave by making it virtually impossible for them to stay. Once a foreigner enters the US there is little we can do to repatriate that individual.

We should make it so that getting a job would become an impossibility for those looking for employment and a financial risk of consequence for those employing them.

I think that's what he said.
