Yes from LPR the path is open for citizenship.... even that is not required.

If you just want to bring them in the system they can be given a status like H1 or something with may be longer duration say 10 yrs.

I am sure none of the political party would wanna do that coz that is solving the prob but they will not get the votes that they are looking for.

That would simply kick the can down the road and we will have all those special cases whose visas will be expiring in addition to all the undocumented that will come in the future....

When considering this issue, I seriously doubt most people are going to consider the amount of f'ed over people following the legal route will be.

No, of course not. This is America. I got mine, #### everyone else. That's how we roll here.

If you believe it's not going to lead to citizenship, I have a bridge for you to buy. Of course it's going to lead to citizenship. I can hear the rally cry now. "We pay taxes and we can't vote!!!" "We pay in to Social Security and we can't collect on it!!"

I bet you believed them when they said that this DACA thing would only be 2 year EADs as well. It's going to lead to citizenship

Why wouldn't a LPR be allowed to collect social security? You need not be a US citizen to collect social security for it is based on contribution.

The immigration reform law does not grant citizenship to anyone. It only grants LPR status to undocumented immigrants after ten years. Their path to citizenship begins after they become LPR, in ten years, and comply with the requirements for residence, taxes, etc.

Wouldn't the opinions on this be highly skewed considering most Americans think that if they Marry someone, that person becomes a citizen?

Amen!

Well, not necessarily that. I and nearly everyone I know was completely shocked to know that it would take a year of processing before my fiance was even able to move here. I think the only real consideration people that haven't dealt with immigration will be, should they be rewarded for cheating and winning or is it worth trying to send them back cost wise.

IE, no one cares if VSC or CSC is going to lag even farther behind considering many people don't know they exist.

Have you ever tried explaining this process to someone who hasn't gone through it? It's a nightmare. So many people are ignorant to the details of immigration unless they've personally experienced them. It's stupidly complex.

My bad. I got that confused with H-1Bs. I work with alot of them and they always b!tch about having to pay FICA, but not being able to collect on it.

You defnitely can't collect SS being here on an H1B even if you contribute to it.

Looks like I may be wrong about that as well.

Oh yeah. I figure most Americans know about as much about what goes on in the lives of people going through immigration as I know about people living with illegal immigration.

Yeah I remember my surprise as well. I honestly thought it would be as easy as showing a marriage certificate at POE. I wish I would've known about this mess ahead of time, I could've went DCF. My Thai marriage visa took just over 24 hours to get vs. a year for my wife's IR-1. Although the Thai visa just gave me the benefit of staying in the country for a year and nothing more.

That is how it used to be, before we were even born...
