Hello everyone. My girlfriend and I recently had our first child together this month. I am a US citizen stationed in Yokosuka, Japan (US Navy) and she lives and gave birth in the Philippines. I am in the process of preparing the paperwork for CRBA. Should I have my son get a Philippine passport first and then me apply for CRBA for US citizenship? That would make him a dual citizen correct? Are there any benefits to this? I thought I read somewhere that if he got USC first that we would have to pay a fee or something for him to stay in the Philippines. Any advice is much appreciated!

Hello, we got our son US passport and CRBA last january without getting philippine passport...its up to u if u get him PI passport so there no need to get an exit permit when he wants to exit the country.... But my fiance ( also in US Navy) prefer not to get him PI passport and we will just pay the exit permit when we leave.. Exit permit is less than 2000 pesos.

Don't know the advantage of getting the Philippine passport, a U.S. passport is required for entering and exiting the USA for all U.S. citizens.

If your son exits the Phils on a Philippine passport, like said, there will be a travel tax of 1,620 pesos.

I seemed to recall some talking of the other fee you are referring to for U.S. citizens that stay over a year, but with your child I think you can get a waiver for only a couple hundred pesos. Hopefully some that have been through this will comment soon.

Read through this, there are link on the left side for more info:

Yes, it's true. It counts as a visa overstay, and can add up over time. Get the Filipino passport for the child, and you will save money in the long run.

How can the child "overstay" if the child is a Philippine citizen?

If he leaves on a US passport, and does not show a Filipino passport, and had no entry stamp, they assumed he overstayed, from the day he entered the country, until he leaves, minus 21 days.

It's the Philippines. It is not supposed to make any sense.

DEPARTURE

Filipinos with dual or multiple citizenship, who presented a foreign passport at the time of their admission into the Philippines may be cleared for departure without need of surrendering a certificate, permit or proof of payment of imposable immigration fees, provided, he/she also shows a genuine and valid passport and/or Identification Certificate. However, if the Filipino does not have a Philippine passport, an Emigration Clearance Certificate (ECC) fee of P710.00 shall be charged for using a foreign passport upon departure.

In the arrival, stay and departure of Filipinos with dual or multiple citizenship, where the Filipino presents a Philippine passport and a foreign passport, the arrival or departure stamp shall be stamped on both passports. In the foreign passport, the immigration officer shall put either of the following notations on the provision for the authorized stay in the arrival or departure stamp:

“PP”- if a Philippine passport is also presented, or

“IC” – if an Identification Certificate is presented

.

(MEMORANDUM ORDER NO. AFFJr. – 04 – 025 dated 14 December 2004).

Yep. They say to have at least 2200 pesos for the child if no Filipino passport. You may not have to pay all that, but it could be up to that amount.

PI passport is less than PHP 2200. On top of that youd have docuementatio for your child as a Filipino citizen.

I got my son his PI passport first (easy breezy) and did his CRBA and US passport second.

First you should start your own thread with your question and not hijack a thread that is 2 years old.

If your child is in the PI with only CRBA/US passport, you need to make sure you get your child his/her PI passport if you do not your looking at costly fees from the BI (Philippine Bureau of Immigration) exit permit and or late fees, when the child exits the Philippines. One plus is with both US and PI passport your child will have Dual Citizenship, with out hassle of paper work/fees down the road.
