At K-1 process my husband (then fiance) submitted his Original Birth Certificate from Jamaica to the Kingston Embassy. At POE in PHL they had the Original in the sealed envelope. He never asked for it back so they have it. He needs his original certificate and we are filing a G-884 form for Return of Original Documents. He wrote please return my original birth certificate. Now the question is where do we send that form to as there is no clear instructions. We are now residing in the state of Maine but the POE was Philadephia.

It gets sent to the service center that processed your petition. However, it is much easier to just order another bc.

To get another birth certificate husband has to fly to jamaica and do it in person, definetely not easier than mailing the form. I dont know who processed our petition, as you know documents keep getting send here and there all the time im more confused than ever

The only original document we ever sent in was our Wisconsin marriage certificate and that was because, says right on it, against state law to copy it., up to a $10,000 fine. But at $5.00 per copy, ordered 50 bucks worth.

Any other legal document, was just photo copies, but for any interview, had to bring the originals in and made darn sure we walked out with them. Some IO's wanted to see all of the original documents, others didn't, explain this? Plus we brought in the original translations, was also worth small fortune. We only had one copy of the birth certificates, original first marriage certificate, and wife's original divorce papers. These would also cost a small fortune to replace and since we were dealing with both Colombia and Venezuela with their crazy notaries as they call them would cost anywhere from $500 to $1000 to replace. Treated those like they were gold.

And not only needed these once, but three times through the process. Then needed them for other things, like passports and other needs. For me, being born here, was only 5 bucks to get a certified copy of my birth certificate. DOS never sent mine back, but no big deal for five bucks.

Didn't anyone make you aware of this?
