We are moving to AZ next week, and I am trying to register my daughter on a K2 Visa for grade 11. The school admin is telling me that I will need to pay tuition for the first semester. Is this correct? If not, what form do I need to provide or fill out?

School starts August 8. Help please!!

Thank you!

Have you checked the rules for your school district in AZ? Does not sound correct to me, but I know nothing about AZ school regulations. Perhaps they require that the student has filed for adjustment of status already.

Why?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I just read the district policy which states that "Non-residents of Arizona" must pay one semester's tuition in advance.

I guess the question is, "when and how" do we become residents of Arizona?

Thanks!

Interesting, also lists the needed docs.

Arizona and Jan Brewer no0pb.gif Getting worse every day apparently.

The article above says that in lieu of certain documents a notarized affidavit from an Arizona resident saying that the child lives in Arizona might work. A K2 can legally attend school and she is moving into the home of an Arizona resident so I would argue that way. Sorry you have to deal with this. Keep it in mind when the USC votes.

Arizona's issues lie at the foot of the Feds.

So yes.

According to the article, your child will qualify as a resident, by showing copies of your rental agreement/ deed/utilities or even an affidavit.

This law is to prevent cross-border students getting free school.

The requirements have nothing to do with your immigration staus.

Have your husband sign the affidavit that he is a guardian for your daughter and she is a resident of his home. This will make her an Arizona resident per the article. He could also go and show his drivers license showing his address.

One thing about the article and presumably the law, a USA passport works as a document proving AZ residency? That only proves he's a citizen of the USA, not that he's a resident of AZ.

Agreed, you do not have to pay. I did not have any issues enrolling my three K-2 stepkids in Phoenix public schools (Kyrene district and Tempe Union HS district). Took a little longer and required explaining what was going on, but living with me (USC & AZ resident), showing utility bill and mortgage docs was no problem. As stated above, this is more to deter cross-border issues.
