I want to send copies of the past 3 years of my taxes, but I don't know what part of my taxes I should send. Should I just send a copy of form 1040 of each year?

If you send the actual returns, you must include the 1040, the W2s, and any other forums you submitted.

I suggest you visit the IRS website and order your tax return transcripts instead.

Supposedly you can also go to an IRS location in person as well and do this, however I have no experience with this.

What she said. You need to send the entire return with all forms, schedules, W-2s and/or 1099s. The IRS transcripts are preferred and free. http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Order-a-Transcript

And yes, you can get them from your local IRS office too. I have done so personally.
