AOS Interview, traveling same day

We finally received the letter for our AOS interview! Oddly enough, it is scheduled for the same day that we will be leaving for Europe. My husband's combo card arrived already, so traveling is not an issue, and our flights are scheduled for the evening, so there is no problem with the times colliding. But will this be an issue at all?

I have heard that some applicants are asked to surrender their combo cards and i-94 at the interview.. could we request a stamp in his passport so that we are able to travel? Or would it be a bad idea to even mention travel plans?

If you are approved at interview you ask for a I-551 stamp in his passport so he can travel. If you are not approved then you can use the combo card. Bring proof of your imminent travel.
