My Hubby's case is going to US Embassy in New Delhi --- they are more strict about having Police Clearance Certificate before completing the NVC case.

However, I have heard from one or two people on these forums that US Embassy in Mumbai is more lenient, and you can request to bring Police Clearance Certficate to Visa interview.

after reading this iam kinda more confused,

this is my situations, Iam the petitioner in USA , US citizen, waiting for NOA2

but i would like to get my documents ready in time

My wife is from Valsad, Gujarat, India, so she has to get her PCC from passport office, am i correct

and the closet passport office is in surat, so from surat passport office, right

she has leaved in Valsad for more than 16years so only 1 PCC, right ,

Thanks for help

You have 2 option here for her passport. Gujarat Passport Office is little strict in rules and regulations.

Option 1:

If you recently married and haven't added husband name to wife's passport then she need to take care of it before she apply for her PCC because when you fill out application to get PCC you need to show that you are married on it.

Option 2:

If you don't want to go through hassle of adding husband name to wife's passport then you can take a chance by submitting an application for PCC at passport office and chose status as "Single" on the application form. This will avoid any need to have the passport reissued.

The PCC has to the match the exact information on the passport that it is being issued on.

Let me make this clear. For all intent and purposes the PCC needs to be issued on the passport that you have applied for. Thats it! If you put married on the application, it wont match the passport. As for the embassy interview, they are not concerned on how the PCC was obtained. They are only concerned that a PCC has been issued.

So safe yourself some headache and just file it as single. The passport office will not ask you specific questions on what type of visa you applied for USA.

Best of luck

Yes, that's correct. At mumbai consulate, you can give PCC during an interview.

Let me all so add that like mentioned by Nick, consulate doesn't care..all it needs is a PCC

At Passport office, we took a chance, declared as married (did not add spouse name to previously issue passport), asked to show marriage certificate and the officer did not bother much. He gave PCC.....so it all depends on the officer at the desk.

What consider as NEW? My wife's passport is issue in 2009 and expired in 2019. Does that consider new or old?

No, That's not NEW. NEW means recently issued Passports which has been done with Police Verification. Anyhow, as you/your wife doesn't have spouse name on Passport, you will have to apply for NEW one (at least in my case it was the case)

Why do they need Husband name on her Passport since she can keep her original name with her last name?

I have NO IDEA buddy, I know, to whomsoever I told this process, everyone has shouted at me the same thing. WHY DO THEY NEED SPOUSE NAME ON THE PASSPORT? I asked the Passport Guy, and he told me that on your PCC application you're married (status) but on your Passport you're not wink.png which is conflicting!!

I don't think there is a law to change name after marriage. I apply for her visa with her original name and last name and seems like everything went fine for her so far...

It's not about changing spouse name, it's about ADDING spouse name.

My passport too doesn't have my spouse's name. How long did it take to reissue the passport?

My PCC appointment is just 2 weeks prior to my interview at the consulate... :(

Did you tried to go without an appointment to your local passport office or kendra?

If you get your passport in rush then it going to take 2-3 days then they will issue PCC once you get new passport.

It's TOTALLY depends upon POLICE VERIFICATION.

If you Police verification is done, you will get it on that day itself.

If not, then it will go as per the process to first have your Police Verification done (like police will visit your house and all) and then you will get it.

My passport is 3 years old.. all police verification was done that time.. i still live at same place and for last 10 years.. it is my permanent residence..

I am really not sure why they would want my spouse name on passport to issue pcc ... :( ... damn them if they ask me for reissue...

I guess they would!!

Why dont you go ahead and apply for PCC right now? If they will ask to reissue your Passport, that procedure will take time.

Update to help others with same question: I had already applied for PCC online 15 days back and today was my appointment. Logically i just had to take my marriage certificate along with my passport and that was it, my logic worked.

PCC was a piece of cake no issues at all... thanks to TCS for making this so smooth.. i am proud to be a TCS'er :)

This was at Ahmedabad, Gujarat Passport Office for PCC Clearance? Because, as I said before people having issue in ahmedabad passport office. Most of other state provide PCC without any issue.

Let me know.

Thanks!
