I was inspired to share this after reading someone else's earlier today.

In 2011 I was sent to Manila for a 3 month assignment to help on board a new team in makati.

I have never been out of the country before and this was a dream come true on its own. I left with an open mind to let whatever happen, happen and not over think it as I have in the past. Not just if i met someone but in general about just another culture.

The first 2 and half months screamed by. One night I was walking around with friends from work and some homeless kids ran up to us selling flowers. They almost got hit by a jeep trying to catch the crowd of Americans and we all almost had a heart attack.....so I of course was filled with 1st world guilt and bought all their flowers and paid double. The boy was so cute cause he looked at the p1000 and tried to hand it back like head bobo I don't have change for this !! His sister pulled his arm cause she got the jist.

So they run off and then I'm holding like 2 dozen flowers waking around makati like I'm selling them or as if I'm a super loser on my first date haha.

So we are passing by a Starbucks and there is a table of women with wedding planners going through trying to plot out all the specifics of their friends wedding and I just pass out the flowers to them to get rid of them. And head inside SB to get a coffee ( working nights at the time). I know, what a smooth operator right lmao.

When I come out we were all chatting and lingering nearby and I caught her eye. Gema :)

Apparently I had given her the red flowers in the bunch, her favorite. So I go over after a few minutes and we start to chat and I get her number. We have dinner once and then nothing cause I'm leaving and really what could come of it I thought.

It was nice to meet her and have a nice evening and then some texts but then I went back to the states never expecting to ever talk to or see her again....maybe we would email but awesome me...i lost her email......romantic right lol

Soooo 5 months later my job gives me a chance to go back to Manila but this time for 10 months.

I jump at the chance for my career and the experience. So I start packing my things and find one of my misplaced keepsakes stuffed in a pocket of my luggage...a business card from the Balikbayan handicraft store...then I remember!!

Flip it over and there it is...her email. Serendipity?I type up a "heeeeeey remember me? " Email and her response is quick and decisive.

"I don't want to talk to you Scott go back to Davao with your other girls !!!"

.....what?! I'm dumbfounded and remind her I'm the guy with the flowers who lives in Texas.

Ahhhhhhh' she says lol. Apparently she had met a different guy named Scott recently through a friend who was apparently an absolute ahole.

Again, how lucky she responded, she could have ignored it....

So anyway we get to chatting back and forth about my upcoming stay and meet up when I get there. Things moved pretty slowly at first 3 months but in July it all came together for us and got serious.

I also come to find out her friends had dragged her out of the house that first night because she really didn't want to go at all and was just waiting for the right moment to leave when I had approached.

She started staying with me in late july and we had 8 amazing months together in Salcedo village. We had our ups downs sideways drama and fun but in the end on dec 15th I locked it in cause I wasn't going to lose her.

That's what started our VJ adventure and here we are another 6 months gone by and she is allllmost with me again and forever. I love her so much. I love her family who have been accepting while also very cautious and I am thankful they saw who I was and that I was for real.

So excited to get past this process and just start or rather continue the story of us . :)

Great story... !!! it is great to re-live how we meet...sometimes that focus gets lost in this long process called "Immigration"

The best for you and yours as you move forward...it is very interesting to hear others love stories :-)
