Photocopies of K-1 package

I've read a bunch of people saying "make sure to get copies of everything you send away for your K-1" but the problem is that I didn't do this? What are they referring to? What would be in that package that is relevant to me after sending it away?

your fiance is supposed to bring an exact copy of everything in the I-129F packet to the interview and you are to add in additional proof of an ongoing relationship

Well, everything. That packet documents your relationship with your fiancé. Its good to keep a copy in the rare case it gets lost. Its also good to send your fiancé a copy when the time comes for the interview.

It's just a precaution in case something gets lost. Don't worry if you didn't. If something happens to go missing you can produce another copy of a document (since you wouldn't have sent in originals) or fill in forms again. You do NOT need to bring an exact replicate of the package to the interview. They will have your package.

not true at all. A copy of the packet sent to USCIS will be sent to the embassy. There is no need to bring what has already been provided to the interview.

Kk, so the copy of the package is just for safekeeping in case it gets lost? I am the beneficiary and my girlfriend is the applicant, and we are both in Canada right now so we put the package together ourselves.

Am I actually supposed to take an exact copy?? I have a lot of the ####### kicking around here but we sent an original document of my being on the honor roll at the university in her home town. I could amass a ton of continued evidence of our relationship, but reproducing the exact package we sent off woild be a stressful and unsure process.

So do I need it exactly?

No you don't need an exact copy. It is just for safekeeping. If the worst happens and it gets lost (VERY unlikely) you can reproduce whatever forms and documents you need, but it wouldn't have to be identical. Like I said, you do not need it for the interview - the consulate will have whatever you sent to the USCIS.

What to send to your fiance(e) once the I-129F is approved (Receive NOA2): 1.A copy of the entire I-129f package (that you made when you sent the petition in) and a copy of information that you sent back due to an RFE (if you received one).2.Send all originals of the documentary proof that you submitted for the I-129F to your fiance(e) for their interview at the embassy.3.Send an original letter affirming your desire to marry your fiance(e) and your continued support of the K-1 Visa. Sign and date the form. This will be similar to the letter you provided with the I-129F, but dated much closer to the interview (it will have most likely been several months since you submitted your I-129F).4.I-134 Affidavit of Support form. Ensure it is signed, with all required supporting evidence. Begin collecting the required information ahead of time, as it can often take several weeks to collect it all.5.You will likely need at a minimum (for the above form) two to three of your most recent pay stubs and a signed letter from your employer listing you job title, start date, your salary, and the status (full-time) of your position. Begin collecting these ASAP after your NOA2 arrives. You will also probably want to include other evidence such as your banking information and other assets as required by the I-134. Specifically you will need at least 2 of the 4 options mentioned in Section II-Supporting Evidence of the I-134. See this FAQ for more tips and ueful information on the Affidavit of Support Form.6.A copy of the NOA2 that you received in the mail.7.Proof of your ongoing relationship. This needs to be taken to the interview! Include photos, travel documents, emails, etc from between the time you filed and present (NOA1 date-now).Examples: Copies of land line and cell phone bills, appropriate emails and letters you have sent including the stamps on envelopes (to document the date they were sent), and other written documentary proof. Provide a reasonable amount; two to four of each type. Pick a range of dates up to and including the present. You can also include a copy of engagement ring receipt (this is something that is a big optional - do not worry if you do not have a ring yet!)

My Fiancee has copies of everything. My feelings are it is better to have it and NOT need it than to need it and not have it. Just my two cents.

I didn't make a copy of the package, and didn't need it. You haven't made a copy, and won't need it, so don't worry about it.

Different embassies have different requirements, which is why there is confusion.

London, for example, doesn't require a copy of the entire packet during the interview because NVC will send their copy to them, but I've read that others were required to bring it with (the person I'm remembering was from India though, I believe. Definitely not Canada).

It's probably best to have a copy for safekeeping and so that you know what you included (I've had to refer to my copy of the packet a few times while reviewing forums, just to make sure I included something I should have).

I have heard of people being asked to show additional proof of relationship at the interview. In one case, they were asked for photos of the couple (this was in London). It was probably an attempted "gotcha" question, though, not something that is typically requested.

Maybe check the region-specific forums and see what people there have said?

After you get NOA2, your journey now becomes Embassy Specific. So there is going to be conflicting recommendations from everyone on VJ. However, it was recommended that you make a copy of all your paperwork, due to the fact that things do get lost. At the interview a copy of your paperwork was suggested for the same reason..

If the embassy does not have the original petition file there will NOT be an interview... even if you have a COPY of what you sent to USCIS. Your copy is of no value at the embassy.

Sending a copy to the foreign fiance(e) is more about them having a copy in case the CO states something is not there at the interview and you can quickly pull out that documentation and provide it. Plus, a CO tends to ask questions based on the information from the I-129F documentation in your file, so it is good for the beneficiary to know exactly what was in your file and the personal info you provided. If you have copies of everything still, and your fiance(e) knows exactly what was in the documentation, then you should be ok without the extra backup.
