UK Prime Minister David Cameron will announce extensive restrictions on internet pornography tomorrow, according to the Daily Mail.

The new measures will make it so that every household connected to the internet will have their porn blocked unless they ask to receive it.

...

By the end of next year, all homes in the UK will have pornography banned on it unless the users decide that they would like to tell their internet provider that they would like to watch some pornography from time to time.

I am imagining a lot of awkward conversations from husbands explaining the need to turn on the porn spigot to fight censorship.

We all know whats next on the list to block: Blasphemy

The Daily Mail, which has been running a campaign to crack down on child pornography, reported that the prime minister will say: "By the end of this year, when someone sets up a new broadband account the settings to install family-friendly filters will be automatically selected. If you just click 'next' or 'enter', then the filters are automatically on.

"And, in a really big step forward, all the ISPs have rewired their technology so that once your filters are installed, they will cover any device connected to your home internet account. No more hassle of downloading filters for every device, just one-click protection. One click to protect your whole home and keep your children safe.

"Once those filters are installed, it should not be the case that technically literate children can just flick the filters off at the click of a mouse without anyone knowing. So we have agreed with industry that those filters can only be changed by the account holder, who has to be an adult. So an adult has to be engaged in the decisions."

Not exactly intrusive. You can decide to remove the anti-porn filters or just allow the default settings to filter it out.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

If I post a naked pic in this forum right now would the opt-out UK filter catch it?

Or is it only going to catch sites that I would only be visiting if I was looking for porn anyway? Do people really get a lot of accidental pop-up porn in their web pages these days? I don't... There is a lot of what people would think of as grey areas but I am guessing that swimsuit models selling vodka are not going to be filtered out in this new system...

Nobody needs this to control what they themselves see - they only need it to control others... family members, spouses, etc.

So yeah in this incarnation it is hardly intrusive, but then it is hardly effective but at least it is very pointless.
