I guess no one knows for sure what happened. I think it went something like GZ asking him "what are you doing here?" or something along those lines. And then TM getting pissed about being questioned and proceeding to beat on GZ. I'd hardly consider that a confrontation from GZ's end. Maybe it is. In my mind it definitely doesn't warrant a beating.

I think there's a message being lost in all these rallies and media interviews. The message is, If someone asks you a question, the proper response isn't to start pounding their face. Maybe say "#### off it's none of your business." But assaulting someone for asking you a question is a good way to get killed. TM escalated it by assaulting him and then GZ used deadly force to defend himself, as is his right to do so. If TM didn't decide to play bad a$$, he would've been home enjoying his Skittles and Iced Tea a short time after running into GZ. I'm having a hard time understand why people aren't getting that.

I get it.

The issue, at least for me is the necessity of deadly force (I carried concealed before so I know). Maybe GZ shouldn't be running around the hood if he can't handle situation without murdering suspects. Even Rampart division wasn't that bad. I've been a NW point person before and I just collect data (description, license plates, etc) and give it to the flatfoots to do their jobs when they take a break from scoffing donuts (or whatever it is they scoff these days).

There were two guilty persons that night but unfortunately for one he wasn't around to tell his side because of maybe his youth.

Its a bad idea to put one's self in this situation. Don't go and confront someone and then try to restrain yourself from a fight. Adrenaline/hormones/anger can take over.

I'm asking seriously. Is it putting yourself in a situation simply by asking someone a few questions? If I walk up to a guy in my neighborhood that I don't know, and say "why are you here?" Should I expect to get my a$$ kicked over that?

You should. Should you have to? No.

Pretty f*cked up society when you should expect to be assaulted for asking someone some questions. Glad the jury didn't see it that way. There's at least 6 people left with some common sense.

It is sad but true. If you live in a big city in any country in the world you learn to keep your head down, avoid confrontation, and go about your daily business. Read Tolstoy, Balzac, Shakespeare - things ain't changed.

Maybe the best thing is to do like the French do in Quebec. If someone asks them a question in English, the just say in perfect English "I don't speak English" and walk away. If only TM or GZ spoke Finnish, we probably wouldn't be having this conversation.

There's some wisdom on that statement, although I doubt you'll see it.

You don't think that a physical confrontation is on the table if you walk up to a random person and ask them what they're doing walking around in their own neighborhood? Look, I'm not saying its right or that it has anything to do with the trial. I'm saying, I wouldn't turn around.

Oh I see it.

In the US we've become killers and not fighters. It's a pathetic trend of wimpyness.

In the until recently shooting someone over a fight was considered a p#ssy move. Now it's accepted because we've become cowards.

I don't know if it's on the table or not. I do know this, It's not legal, nor should it be, for someone to assault anyone else for asking that question. If that person does decide to assault you, and you fear bodily harm , then it is within your rights to kill them. I see nothing wrong with that law whatsoever. I don't care what race the person is that's assaulting someone, or the race of the person that is shooting the other person defending themselves.

This is one messed up society if people start thinking it's ok to assault someone for asking some questions, and then get pi$$ed when the victim of the assault is acquitted for defending themselves.

Sorry that defies logic to me, but I guess I'm in the minority on this one.

Personally I don't have a problem with asking questions. Had he asked them before he chased him for four minutes, maybe this wouldn't have been the case. He treated him like a criminal before he even spoke to him.

You can't see it because it's not the soup you swim in. This doesn't happen to you or anyone who thinks GZ is justified.

I hope the people who you swim with realize it's not a good idea to assault someone for asking questions.
