Hello everyone, I just got married in the past month at Saudi Arabia. I am back in the U.S and want my wife to come to the U.S as soon as she can. I dont know which route to take whether k-3 visa or cr-1. I heard with the k-3 I am able to bring my wife to the u.s quicker and we can wait for everything to finish up here. Also should I get a lawyer because I dont want to make any mistakes and not be approved or delay any more time than I have to wait.

Hi dear! Sorry to tell you this, but you MUST file for the CR-1 now that you are married. You can't file for a K-3 because it is only for fiancée's. This is a great forum, so if you ask all your questions and read everything in the guides and wikis, you might not need a lawyer. Everyone here has told me that one shouldn't really need a lawyer unless there is a lot of sketchy business going on. Try reading through, posing your questions, and doing it yourself, and if it is too much, then look for a lawyer. Good luck!

This is incorrect. The K3 is a visa for married persons, to allow them to enter the USA ahead of their CR1/IR1 approval. The K1 is for fiancés.

More about K3 visas:

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_2993.html

However, most no longer file for K3, because the CR1/IR1s are generally approved earlier.

The OP should follow this guide: http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide1

Incorrect, a K3 is a non-immigrant spousal visa (K3 visa holders have to go through the Adjustment of Status Process in order to obtain a green card). What you were thinking about is the K1 which is only a fiance(e) visa.

OP, the K3 is not quicker than the CR-1 and that is if it survives administrative closure by the NVC or Embassy. Furthermore, if you wife were to obtain a K3 there is still more processing to deal with (see what I wrote above regarding AOS).

Whether or not you need a lawyer is a decision only you can make. What I suggest you do is look over the forms and instructions and determine how comfortable you are filling out all the necessary paperwork. If you are not comfortable filling out the forms yourself, then professional or legal assistance may be for you. If you are comfortable and you do not have any serious issues that could potentially complicate your case, then forgo the lawyer and ask any question you may have on the forum. Again, it's your choice.
