How difficult is it for a Philippines passport holder / US Permanent Resident Alien to obtain a visa to travel to UK, France, or other Schengen area countries? Is it easier due to the fact that one holds a US green card or is it the same difficulty as applying as being only a Philippines citizen?

The notion that a Philippine passport holder has a hard time getting a Schengen and other EU visa is actually not true. I have travelled to Europe 3 times on my Philippine passport (while living in the Philippines) and had to apply for a visa each time without issue. Like most visa applications, certain requirements have to be met when applying for an EU visa. Provided you are able to comply with the requirements and submit proper documents then you are assured an approval.

Welcome to the forum.

It may likely depend on the visa requirements of the individual countries/regions.

By way of example, my Chinese-citizen wife (LPR) and I are planning a late-honeymoon trip up to Victoria, BC, Canada. After doing some simple Google research of Canadian government immigration and customs regulations, I was able to determine that she will not be required to obtain a Canadian visitor visa to enter Canada, but will only have to preset her valid Chinese passport and valid US Green Card.

I was curious if being a US LPR makes it easier by negating the need for things such as gathering financial and employment information.

I never had a hard time even when I wasn't a LPR yet

My Journey:

We met through a study-abroad program in Shanghai, China in August of 2009

We got engaged March of 2010

I received my K1 VISA in 6 months (June-December 2010)

We were married 04/02/2011
I received my conditional 2-year greencard (AOS) in 2.5 months with no interview (April-June 2011)

Our son was born 02/03/2013

I received my masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology 04/17/2013

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

My husband returned from deployment 06/20/2013

My naturalization journey took 4 months (April-August 2014)

I became a US citizen on 08/01/2014

Received passport in 3 weeks (regular processing)

It doesn't make it easier or harder. The requirements are more or less the same for all citizens required to file visas to travel to the EU. Being US LPR does not put you in a better status than any citizen required visa, the standards are the same.

Err... I would advise against filing a Schengen visa via the Italian consulate. They are extremely popular and notoriously slow. In my experience, the German speaking countries (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) are the easiest and the fastest. You can apply at any Schengen member country provided that country is either your main destination (main purpose for travel) or the country whom you have the longest stay. Your itinerary will determine this. First determine your main purpose for travel (tourism, see Eifel tower for example) and draw up an itinerary of stay and destinations. Then determine the proper consulate for purposes of visa fling based on that.
