Quianna Tompkins, 6-Year-Old Girl, Shot During Family Memorial In Chicago

A 6-year-old girl was shot in the back and critically wounded along with another woman as the two attended a memorial for a victim of gun violence.

Quianna Tompkins and about 40 others were at a vigil for Brandon "Bones" Snipe, 24, who was killed exactly five years ago on Friday in Chicago. Gunfire erupted, and Tompkins was hit by a stray bullet, NBC Chicago reports. Witness Vanessa Rose said she saw Tompkins run from the sidewalk to the grass, where she collapsed.

One person is in custody, but there may be other suspects.

"[Quianna] is fighting for her life as we speak," Tompkins' mother, Juannakee Kennedy, told ABC News. She pleaded for the group of teens many saw running from the scene to come forward.

"Please, I know you didn't mean to do this on purpose," she said. "Please don't go through life with guilt on your heart. We forgive you. We just want some justice for our baby."

A 52-year-old woman was another innocent bystander shot in the hail of bullets. Witnesses said they saw the woman turn around with blood gushing from her chest. Someone put pressure on her wound and called 911.

The two victims' conditions weren't immediately available, according to WGN-TV. It's unclear why the suspects opened fire at a memorial service.

This is tragic but the good news is that the homicide rate in Chicago is down 37% since Concealed Carry was forced on the Governor and Mayor who were protecting criminals like the one that did this. As more and more IL residents get their concealed carry permits, this sort of thing will be reduced and hundreds more young people will NOT be killed every year.

In response to crime victim George Zimmerman's "acquittal" for something he had to do to defend himself we see a push in many places to repeal laws that protect victims from criminals.

Fortunately this will aslo be rejected.

Concealed carry just passed in Illinois on July 9. And as of now, the system to issue concealed carry permits is not yet in place, ie, none have been issued. So why did the murder rate drop 37% if no one can still legally carry concealed?

I knew there was a logical explanation. Murder rate drops due to concealed carry, yet no concealed carry permits have been issued. Now it's perfectly clear.

The permits will not be issued until sometime next year....so much for that theory!

Let's just flood the streets with unlimited supplies of guns.....I'm sure that will solve all our problems.

Unfortunately, that ship has sailed. There's already more than 1 gun (legal and illegal) for every man, woman and child in this country. 300+ million guns. That's a pretty daunting number. I get the 2nd amendment and all that, but that number is still shocking.

Let's say someone invented a device tomorrow (not a gun) that's primary purpose was to kill other people. The best way to prevent yourself from being killed by this device, would be to have one yourself. Then the govt. turned around and made it a basic right that everyone could possess one.

I know it's hypothetical, but does that seem like a good idea? Something seems wrong with that logic to me, but what do I know.
