Question about passport

I just got the email saying our visa got approved!

I read somewhere that my passport needs to be valid for at least 8 months after the issue date of the K1 visa.

My passport is valid untill may 2014, my question is if I get a new passport now would this be any problem to the whole process or would it be better to do it now so I have it already.

According to the packet 3 information I received from the embassy it's 6 months after the issuance of the K1.

Congratulations on your petition being approved. My wife had to get a new passport while we were waiting for her interview and it didn't cause any problems. It also might be less of a hassle to get a new one while you are there instead of renewing in the US.

The visa is good for 6 months, if they stamp your current passport with your current passport, enter on that one. I would reapply prior to expiration later. I hope that is what you really wanted to know. USCIS/Embassy will not (should not) stamp a passport which will not be valid for the duration of the visa. My wife came after 3 months, she renewed her passport prior to the process to make sure the stamps would be there for 10 years.

Thanks all for the replies. I'm gonna go get a new passport today so it won't for sure not be right on the edge of expiring in case something takes longer.

Does the passport for the K2 have be older than 6 months after issues as well?

The requirement is just about the same for any visa. It needs to be valid for 6 months after issuance.
