I was just about to post that. The USCIS gets 124 million in federal funds, out of a total budget of about 3.24 billion, meaing 25% of its funding from the government. That means that it is 75% self funded.

And only 13,000 employes to handle the millions of millions of cases per year. There's your broken system.

They also contract out a good portion of the application process, lock box processing centers, for example. The determinations, however, are made by USCIS employees.

Contractors come out of the same funding, and they tend to suck up as much money as they can get their greedy neo-liberal hands on. Point remains, the USCIS needs to get way more funding from the government and hire more people. This bill does not address this glaring problem and is thus IMO a complete failure to actually reform the broken system.

The US is nuts, yay!

Regardless, I still wouldn't swap the legal process for the uncertainties of the undocumented, nor did I moan about that wait times, but rather enjoyed my enforced inability to work, those were the days smile.png

I met my soon-to-be wife in 2011 and have been suffering immensely since then without her. I don't care if she couldn't work, I just want to be with her. This is an advantage which the illegals have stolen from me by getting ahead of me in the line, unlawfully, the ability to be with their loved ones in the US, and for that alone I could never stand to see amnesty given to them.

An advantage stolen from you? How can that possibly be the case - it's not been implemented yet. Moreover, the wait times to enter the US are entirely separate - this has nothing to do with the consular process to get the initial entry visa. Keep crying about it if you want to and blame things that are irrelevant if it makes you feel better.

At the end of the day, either the system has to be self funded, in which case the costs are paid by everyone who applies for a visa and he volume of requests is irrelevant OR there is a government component which has to be budgeted for so, I have to say it seems unlikely that the undocumented who are allowed to enter the process are going to have any significant effect on the wait times for everyone else.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

That used to drive me nuts. I'd travel to India for work. I'd ask someone a question, and I'd get the head nod in response that is half-way between yes and no. Is that a yes or a no!!??

Dude I have never figured out the yes-no code of head-nodding

i don't get it.
