Hi dear fellow VJ Friends,

I am planning to sponsor my sister inlaw to come to US. What are my options here? How can I do this? What type of visa is better and faster? I am expecting and I dont have anyone in the US to take care of me except my husband who is working. I appreciate your help.

Thank You All

Sorry, you cannot sponsor a sister-in-law

I assume you are a green card holder?

YOU cannot bring her on a visitors visa, she needs to apply herself. That being said, taking care of you and your new baby may be considered 'work' by USCIS and she cannot work on a visitors visa.

good luck

I think a tourist visa is not something you can sponsor. You can write an invitation letter like I just did for my mom, but the final desicion depends of the embassy. And when you say sponsor, are you planning to bring her here to live or just visit? Staying here with a tourist visa is illegal. She has a period of time (i94) when she can stay, once is over she needs to go back.

She can apply or a visitors visit but cannot mention coming to help you with a baby

that's working in their eyes, just a visit should be applied for , proving she will go

home after time allowed in PP. proof of solid job back home (employer letter), lease on

apt, husband & kids at home can help to prove she is only visiting plus a bank statement

in her country. You cannot petition her or help her get here except to acknowledge she will

be a guest in your home.

She cannot work on a tourist visa, and her helping you with the baby is defined as work.

Hi I am planning to sponsor my sister inlaw to come to US.

On what basis?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Thank You all for responding. I am a US citizen. My husband is a green card holder. My sister-inlaw is under 18 years of age. We would like her to come and perminately live here with us if there is a possibility. But it looks like our option is very limited. I won't bring her here to take care of my and my baby but go to school and make a better life for herself. How the visitor/ Tourist visa works? How long can the person stay in US?
