We went in for our interview yesterday after deciding to get married here in the states and cancelling our K1 that was taking forever so he wouldn't have to leave, and we are already approved!!! We will be getting the green card in 4-7 days!!! YAY!!!

For those of you wanting to keep your loved one around it goes to show you can go through this process without having to ever leave eachothers side :)...at least if your Canadian..I dunno if it works the same with other countries.

BUT YAY!!!

We were married in Washington in August, we submitted our I-485, I130, I765, and I131 in Sept of 06 to the Chicago Lock Box, and got our Green card in January 07!!! Found this was much faster and easier than going through the K1 process.

Congratulations, you're very lucky. Unfortunately, what you've said isn't exactly true. Canadians are not allowed to enter the U.S. with the intent to stay, if they happen to change their minds while they are down, that's a totally different thing. My Canadian husband was denied entry in September 05, and we have been living apart since.

But truly, Congratulations, I'm very glad it all worked out for you :)

Indeed each case is different, it's not a matter of country, the rules are the same for every one, it's a matter of courage, luck and circumstance. But I am always extremely happy when I hear of a love story that has survived prejudice and legal difficulties. Congratulations and God bless! (F)

Wow, just goes to show that you do not need to know anything about immigration to get through this process.

Congratulations on your success; thank your fairy godmother! :star: BTW, you did not switch to a K-3, you have done an Adjustment of Status and people may not come to the US as a tourist with the intent to do what you did. Enjoy your good luck & buy a lottery ticket! :)

Someone please tell me how that isn't fraud since they already had intent to marry by filing the K-1?

Having a petition in process doesn't just exempt someone from adjusting status. Circumstances can change and it all depends on those circumstances.

 Who is to say they intended to marry when they did? It's a fine line, but works out for some lucky folks. Edited by Tim and Bethanie
