Now that we have our MNL case number, I realized SLEC medical and fees for the application appointment are another things to pay. I am having a little problem here because my fiance (USC) seems not willing to pay for it and it will take me months to save for it. Is it normal that the benefeciary pay for those? In your case, who did pay for these? Just curious

Money should not be an issue when it comes to love and how much you guys want to be together, im sorry to hear about this. I hope everything works out for the both of you

Genesis 2:22-24
Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman, ' for she was taken out of man." For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.

Red flag pops up right away when you say you're fiance is "not willing" to pay for it. I, as the USC, understood my then future wife's financial situation. I paid for everything in the Visa process and sent her money to comfortably life on during the process so she wouldn't have any worries. Since she has been here, I've been the financial provider, not because she doesn't want to work or is asking for materialistic things. Just because things came up, she got pregnant, so I didn't want any undue stress on her or the baby. Then she was watching our little baby girl after birth. Whatever she wants, if I can, I get or give it to her. Lol, she only has a learner's permit, but she's had two cars this year. I just traded in her 01 Acura TL for a 2013 Mazda 3 on Monday. Because I remember her saying she likes those, one of the times I was in the Philippines....just to make her happy (well, she's already happy, but to surprise and maker her happier :))and motivate her to get the driver's license :) But she did have a job interview yesterday...so we'll see.

So if I were you I would be wary, love is a two way street and sharing is a big part of a relationship. I might make the money now for us, but my wife puts a lot of effort and contributes in the relationship by taking care of other things around the house.

Take care and think wisely about your current and future situation.

"I would seriously reconsider this whole thing though if you two cannot agree to finances this early in the game, as agreeing on finances are a major issue THROUGHOUT marriage, and it is best to discuss and establish expectations early on them. ".....Well said wow.gif

For me and my Fiancee "$$$$" shouldn't be an issue in our relationship. Before we started our relationship into full speed, we made sure that we discussed everything openly. And one of them is about "Money", it is a mutual agreement for both party how to deal with it. We the "Fiance" should not be hesistant asking or discussing this to your partner. It is very important to know at the early stage how our partner deal with it. In a long run this will be a major issue as mentioned to the above quote.

Feeling blessed because my Fiancee is very open minded in any discussion. And as long as my Fiancee is making more "Money for my Honey all is well" dancin5hr.gif rofl.gif heart.gif

In our case, my fiancé paid for i-129f.....he would send me money every month and I save the. Money for fiancé fees, medical fees and other expenses like the plane tickets, nso, nbi docs, pics printing, photocopies, CFO, taxi, food etc...

I appreciated the CFO seminar because the counselor advises that I should tell my fiancé what my expectations in our relationship...after the CFO seminar I informed my fiancé that he has to pay 1070 for my adjustment of status 15 days after we marry, that he should put my name in his medical insurance...he agreed and it is a nice feeling and assurance that I will be taken care of in the USA.

I suggest talk it over with ur fiancé...if he won't pay for the medical fees...and u really love him then save for it ...if otherwise take ur time and think it over .....who knows this might be a blessing for you.

Its sad to hear that. Maybe he didnt realize the expenses involved. Hopefully, he will wake up and see the light. Tell him it just a dowry that he must pay to his own USA government to have his dream bride. If he doesnt pay, he loses the money he has already paid for the petition; and he loses YOU.

I'm the K1 Applicant as well and I've paid all the fees after the I-129F filing (Medical, Visa Application Fee, etc). Christopher and I have talked about finances. We both covered each other when it came to filing fees, airline tickets for vacations and such, housing arrangements when visiting me and I him. We both know that I wouldn't be able to work right away in the US (except for my freelance design gigs). And when I do get the work permit (EAD), We both are going to be working together. We have laid out a plan on our finances and actually keep them on a shared spreadsheet.

OP, You and your fiance should have a clear understanding on both your finances. And I do agree with all the other poster's insights on how this could possibly be a problem for you and your fiance in the future. Have a talk with your fiance. There are still other 'fees' to keep in mind as mentioned above (AOS, ROC, etc.) other than these medical and K1 Visa fees. What about plane tickets? What happens after you move? Are you going to work? Discuss it with your fiance soonest.

I hope you get to resolve this as soon as possible though.

Thanks everyone for the advice and input. I really appreciate that you shared your thoughts in here. He was very depressed that moment (he severely injured himself recently dislocated his arms during a contact sport but he's perfectly fine now) when I didn't realized that telling him the fees would aggravate his emotion. And of course, I put set things aside when I felt a sudden change in his tone and thought that he might not really pay at all and there I panicked and posted in this forum lol (this is really a wonderful forum as you really get to share your thoughts ad feeling and read each other's experience). There are just some time that you clash with one another, different culture as we are.

Things gone well the day after by comforting him. He was able to send money and I was able to set-up an appointment for the interview. He then told me that he just reserved the wedding reception on 2nd week of Sept but set my expectation that it might change depending on when will I be getting my Visa. He told me to hurry the paperwork and he misses me :-)

When we filed K1 before, my husband paid for the application but I paid all the expenses I incurred during the process in the Philippines. I even paid my own ticket. As for the church wedding, my husband paid majority of it except what we wore in the wedding, I brought it from Philippines and also I paid for church fees here.
