Now that we have our MNL case number, I realized SLEC medical and fees for the application appointment are another things to pay. I am having a little problem here because my fiance (USC) seems not willing to pay for it and it will take me months to save for it. Is it normal that the benefeciary pay for those? In your case, who did pay for these? Just curious

Who pays it is entirely up to you. Personally I think that the USC should realize how many months it will take for you to pay 20,000 php and just pay it if he wants you there faster.

I would seriously reconsider this whole thing though if you two cannot agree to finances this early in the game, as agreeing on finances are a major issue THROUGHOUT marriage, and it is best to discuss and establish expectations early on them.

He'll be needing to support you fully for the first year in America at least, for starters.

My fiancé paid for every expenses since we started the process. I mean it doesn't matter who pays as long as you have proper communication regarding this matter. It's all about starting a new life and we won't decide on anything as serious as this - to be with the one you love for the rest of your life if you're not ready yet, right? So I suppose when your fiancé proposed to you he might as well have anticipated to be prepared in all aspects. I would suggest to talk it over with your fiancé in a right manner so you both can figure out how to make things work. Good luck and God bless on your journey!

I would seriously reconsider this whole thing though if you two cannot agree to finances this early in the game, as agreeing on finances are a major issue THROUGHOUT marriage, and it is best to discuss and establish expectations early on them.

I'm a K1 applicant but I paid my VISA and medical fees, I did not require my Fiance to pay. AND, I never asked any help from him financially. I work from home. luv.gif

I work and my wife was working as a RN till she came here. And it was our choice. I also wanted her here ASAP. She is waiting to be a RN here in California, it takes time, green card took a month, CA ID took 2 months.

You need to agree on things. Did you ask?

My wife said she's going to help financially when she starts working.

We are a team, we are partners, we are together for life.

Make sure your making the right long term choice.

Don't waste your time and effort if your both not committed to each other.

For my wife and I there is absolutely nothing that is too sensitive to discuss, especially when it comes to the health of our relationship. Finances will be an almost daily discussion in any well run household. If her fiance is already dividing 'his' money and 'her' money that is a HUGE red flag. It shouldn't matter who pays for it because it is all 'their' money unless someone has control issues.

To put this into perspective, many of the questions asked by social workers during the initial interview for a VAWA case concern economic abuse. This is one of the best routes to file for a VAWA if a woman has been emotionally abused or trapped and has no police records or medical records of physical abuse. Financial records can easily determine if the spouse has been cut off from resources or prevented from working or maintaining a job.

Putting someone on a tight allowance or demanding they work to earn their own money for their needs are signs of a caustic marriage and it is best to rethink any relationship that is headed in that direction.

Edit: Just to answer the OP's question, I paid for everything but I insisted to do so because I knew the costs involved were not insignificant to my wife.

I paid for all. It would have bothered me to no end to think that we would delayed by "months", while I made her save for anything in the visa process.

Your relationship is your business and your business only. All I am saying is that my wife would have been devastated if I had told her she has to pay for her part, and I would be willing to wait months for that to happen.

Majority of the time the USC pays for those things.

Does he not realize that for many that is almost a months income for each expense; visa fee, medical, and the airline ticket is for sure more than a few months income for the average Filipino ?
