Black Man Kills White Teen - Jury Lets Him Walk

The point is every black person in the country is held to the same standards as GZ. When they go to trial, the state can't bring up things irrelevant to the crime. Are you suggesting we should change that so next time a black man goes to trial he's not protected by our laws but instead is allowed to be convicted by public opinion?

This case was over before it started. That's why GZ wasn't initially arrested. Next time the cops find no evidence of a crime do you want the community and the media to dictate what the "new rules" are?

There was a time in our history when "mob justice" didn't work out so well for black people. Are you really sure you want to advocate going back to it?

Exactly. Can't have it both ways.

It's an exercise in saying the same thing over and over and expecting a different response.

It's like flirting with a stripper.

Me too. I was going to post links showing the differences between when we are put through the justice system it's a whole different ballgame. Someone here, I think it was Karee, even said if GZ was black he would have been convicted. So how are we equal if GZ was black he would face jail time for something that the real GZ was acquitted for?

Here are some facts:

• Among persons over age 24, Blacks (11.2%) were significantly more likely to be pulled over while driving than Whites (8.9%).12

• Among drivers stopped for speeding, Blacks (75.7%) and Hispanics (79.4%) were more likely than Whites (66.6%) to be ticketed.13

• Police were more likely to conduct a search of the vehicle and/or driver in traffic stops involving Black male drivers (15.9%) or Hispanic male drivers (14.2%), compared to White male drivers (7.9%).14

People of color are disproportionately arrested.

• Blacks (5.2%) and Hispanics (4.2%) stopped by police while driving are more likely than Whites (2.6%) to be arrested.15

• In other words, Blacks composed 11.6% of drivers stopped by police, but represented 19.9% of the drivers arrested. Hispanics were 8.4% of drivers stopped by police, but 11.7% of those arrested. Whites, on the other hand, are 77% of stopped drivers but only 66.3% of drivers arrested.16

People of color face harsher treatment in court.

• Native people are disproportionately imprisoned compared to their population size. This is most evident in the Plains. For example, in Montana, 16% of prisoners are American Indians, even though they constitute just 6% of the state’s population. In North Dakota, American Indians are 5% of the state’s total population, but are 19% of the prison population.17

• Blacks are more likely to be sentenced to prison for the same crime than Whites. One third of people of color sentenced to prison would have received a shorter or non-incarcerative sentence if they had been treated in court the same way as White defendants facing similar charges.18

• Hispanics and Blacks who have no prior criminal record are far more likely to be incarcerated than White defendants with no criminal record. Hispanics are twice as likely as Whites to face prison time instead of probation, a fine, or time in a county jail.19

• Black youth are more likely to be detained than White youth. Moreover, Black youth with no prior admissions were six times more likely to be incarcerated in a juvenile facility than a White youth with a similar history. Latino youth were three times more likely to be imprisoned.20

• Blacks are disproportionately placed on death row. While Blacks constitute 12% of the total U.S. population, approximately 43% of the death row population is Black.21

Thanks NB.

But they said they were glad I showed up because everyone else was so lame. You think they were lying to me? Not Destiny. She wouldn't lie like that.

I love this stuff. "You can't lop us all into the same category" when it's time to talk about things like free money, victimizing others, etc. But as soon as it's time to tabulate who is a victim, "the numbers don't lie."

I guess having it both ways is nice when it suits you. Just keep in mind you've now argued in favor of allowing extra evidence a t trials and using public opinion to convict people. Wonder how much that'll help those numbers.

I'm sorry maybe I missed something. You just said that every black person is treated fairly by the system right? That's what you said. That we can't cry foul because according to you we are afforded the same rights as everyone else? So when I post actual numbers that clearly state, even if I don't have a record, I am six times more likely to be imprisoned just because I am black, you say I want it both ways. Don't get mad because your statement is flat out wrong. We can't name our children what we want becaus if it's an ethinc name that hurts their chances for job and school opportunities. We can't dress the way we want because a white guy in a hoodie is a white guy in a hoodie, but a black guy is a thug. You will never get it.

I have never claimed we were the victims, I said we are not treated equally under the same law you say is fair and impartial. And it's easy for you to make light of it since you're not the one who has to tread lightly in every aspect of life since we don't have the same leeway. I don't want the special treatment, nor do I ever ask to be treated any less than my counterparts, and they work harder than most folks just like you who love to switch between saying we want to be victims yet demand special treatment. We never asked for Affirmative Action, talk to the government for that one.

Walked in an Strip bar, with a guy one night. He recognized a girl from the hood and called her by her real name. She got mad.
