I spent 10 years working in heritage preservation, using parts of my history degree.

Since moving to the US, I haven't used my training at all, unless you count the work I am doing on the history of my church back home in Nova Scotia. And yeah, I'm a bit bitter about that.

Well, do you mean do I use the mere fact that I had the degree, or do I use the knowledge I learned while getting the degree?

In either case, what I did my MA in is precisely what I do professionally, so yes to the latter; and as an early 20s person starting out, it was enough to get some extra interest from potential employers, so yes to the former. I don't know whether the fact that I had the degree helped my chances in this job, but certainly I couldn't have gotten the job if I hadn't done the coursework.

The job I have now requires a masters degree - so yes.

I have three degrees and I use all of them in this job, believe it or not. Now...is the salary commensurate to the amount the degree cost?? Not even close.

oh well.

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!

sad fact. half the time even bachelor's degrees just denote that you are trainable. exceptions would be trades, medical personnel, etc. i began my master's and realized in my line of work, while the bachelor's got me the job i had, paying about 20K for a masters wouldn't yield a much higher income than tenure.

I work in Aerospace, I have a degree in webdesign. I am very close to another degree in History and a third in Business, both of which will complete in July, provided I can keep my mind off of this Visa and into school. Immediately upon finishing those I embark on my MBA. Sad thing is I may have to take a pay cut to get a job using my degree as being a skilled journeyman machinst pays very very well in the Aircraft manufacturing industry. It will be worth it, I'm tired of ten hour days seven days a week.

I got the job I have solely because of my degree from the college I graduated from. I have used a good chunk of what I learned, but I also found out quick that I was woefully deficient in hands on experience. Learned a lot in the first few years.
