Hi there,

Doing DCF have a question:

Is the visa valid for 6 months after the interview? (What I was told)

Or is it 6 months after the medical? (What I have read on the board from some people)

Thanks!

i'd advise you to read the instructions abt medical at your embassy web site. I am not from your region, where I am it says:

Travel clearances are valid for 6 months from the time the evaluation is complete for applicants who have no Tuberculosis Classification and who do not have HIV infection. Travel clearances are valid for 3 months from the time the evaluation is complete for applicants who have any kind of Tuberculosis Classification or who have HIV infection.

It's usually 6 months from medical.

* I-130/CR-1 visa by Direct Consular Filing in London
3rd May 2013 - Married in London

7th May 2013 - I-130 filed
4th June 2013 - NOA2 (approved)
16th July 2013 - Interview (approved)
30th July 2013 - POE San Francisco
29th August 2013 - 2 year green card arrived

* How? Read my DCF London I-130 for CR1/IR1 Spouse Guide

* Removal of Conditions (RoC) via California Service Centre
1st May 2015 - 90 day RoC window opened
6th May 2015 - I-751 filed (delivered 8th May, cheque cashed 18th May)
7th August 2015 - Approved / GC production

27th August 2015 - 10 year green card arrived

* Naturalisation (Citizenship) via Phoenix Lockbox

* San Francisco Field Office:
1st May 2016 - N-400 window opened
20th August 2016 - N-400 filed

26th August 2016 - NOA1
13th September 2016 - Biometrics

12th January 2017 - Biometrics (again)

From what I've seen here on VJ the actual answer is "It depends" and I think this is one of those Embassy/Consulate specific items. When you get the visa take a look at it and the expiration date will be on it. Just make certain to enter the US before that date.

My wife's visa was valid for 6 months after the interview, but her medical was valid for 1 year. I am thinking it is the shorter of 6 months after the interview or the validity of the medical. So if you go in for a medical one month before the interview and the medical is valid for only 3 months, your visa would be valid for only 2 more months as the medical expires 2 months after the interview. This seems to be a question that has a lot of different answers from people going thru the PI where there is an issue with TB.

Thanks everyone there isn't much for people going through South Africa. I have to call or e-mail them for questions. That's why I posted to ask on VJ.

I see now why I have seen both 6 months from interview and medical.

Thanks again.

Ok so I found under everything on the South African website the K1 visa is good for 6 months for the date of the interview.

Is there any reason the believe the CR1 visa would be not good for 6 months?
