FTR Chappelle used to kill the N word constantly. Kinda sucks because sometimes I wanted to repeat what he said because its funny but I wasn't allowed. I always remember him in skit with the white family that had the N word for their last name. He was a milkman and every morning he would pop in and say mornin N words. Here's the thing, I got so used to it from him saying it, it turned into "friends" instead of condescending. So I see how that could have happened with black folks. I guess there's still a flag set to go off when it comes out of a white person's mouth. Rightfully so i'd say.

Really though, words are nothing without meaning. I can call you a doo doo head or a #### face and they MEAN the same thing.

My girlfriend shared a Sundae with Nichelle Nichols back in the 90's ... I was waiting in line for an autograph at a convention (no laughing) and she made a comment about about her ice cream and she said "I have an extra spoon, come have some!" and they sat there and cracked jokes for the next ten minutes at the geeks expense..

I also had my very first digital camera - 0.3 megapixels and each one of them guaranteed to be a grainy piece of #######. This was about the best pic I could get (my son was still very happy with it):

Then you say something like " Go to the hood and try and see what happens" Yes I paraphrased , but that kind of discredits all the good points you made, and allows those that stereotype to go, "see I told you".

Now now, we're both Southerners here. You know there are still vast amounts of places round here that a black man could not waltz into and start calling people crackers. It's really simple, I want those who want to say it so bad, to say in front of black people. If you want to fight for the right to say it(not you per say), leave your comfort zone and say it with pride. I say the hood because the people that are dying to say it aren't from there. They want to say it in from a place where they can't be punished.

It's my biggest pet peeve that blacks marched through some of the worst ####### imaginable to get the basic rights we have now, and because we( I say we because when I was young I was ignorant) took the word and made it a term of endearment somehow, but off limits to any other race to say, white people are mad as hell about it. If I had my way you would have to find another word because that word is never ok to use.
