Immigration "reform" as it is currently being discussed is a joke, a travesty, and a crime against people who want to follow the rules. Millions of people (like my soon to be wife) are waiting YEARS in line to get in to the States and suffering all types of heartache, turmoil, separation from loved ones (including lovers, spouses, and children), depression, financial hardship, and myriad other problems to come here LEGALLY, sometimes for no other reason than love! As law-abiding applicants who submit to the gaggle of paperwork, name checks, invasive questions about personal history, and the degrading assumption of criminality they that they must disprove to be granted a visa, they are treated like #######, profiled based on their national origin, religion, and yes often times race, and routinely left to wait for months and years on end with no word what's happening to their case. These people endure all of this to come here...and they are treated like terrorists and suspects. Millions of others just jump over the border without papers (or with illegal fake ones), take illegal jobs, use identity theft to get by, and then complain loudly and vocally to their legal family and friends about how hard their lives are now (what a surprise!). You're telling me that the solution to this problem is to advantage the first group, at the expense of the second (who will now have to deal with even longer lines and waits thanks to the illegals flooding the district offices and national service centers with applications)? Sorry, no dice, fix the broken immigration system we have first (remove the 1000 redundant steps, simplify the paperwork, grant the USCIS federal funding so they can actually hire enough people to handle the case loads, get rid of racist AP with no time limits targeting everyone of 3rd world or Muslim origin, remove the ability of people to change non-immigrant visas like tourist visas to permanent ones through marriage, impose real system to ensure that only legal workers can work here), then we can talk about people who broke the rules and made things harder for the rest of us who are trying to follow them.

Unfortunately, people that followed the law get to wait a year or more for immigration, while those that broke it get rewarded. If they fixed the legal immigration system before addressing the illegal immigration issue, that would be ok in my book.

Perhaps someday everyone will realize the government isn't there to "help" us.

Not sure I get this. Who else will "help" with immigration? Not like we can privatize this....
