I think i know the answer to this, but I want to verify and I couldn't find it after a quick search.

After you file I-751, and your GC is extended 12 months, if you travel outside the US, is the NOA saying your status has been extended 12 months good enough for immigration once you come back into the country?

-or-

Are you supposed to go to one of the local offices and get a stamp put into your passport?

Hi:

I'm in the same situation. Just to be on the safe side I got my stamp, it doesn't take that long. I made an appointment for 8:00am on a friday and I was at work by 9am. We went to Canada last week-end, nobody asked me anything. But since your passport and you GC are your VALID proofs to enter USA, it's better to have the stamp. A NOA is just a piece of paper.

All the best,

A.

I think it depends in part where you are going. My wife and I went back to Thailand on her AP document and the airline official in Chiang Mai had never seen one before. I'm sure that had we gone thru Bangkok they would have recognized it. When checked again in Singapore she was asked to show the original document and again, no problems. But who knows what would have happened in Elbonia.

Can you get the passport stamp at any office or just the one handling the case?

You need an infopass appointment at your nearest local office to get the stamp.

The NOA + expired Green Card is 100% sufficient to travel return to the US with. Proven out by thousands of reports over the years.

I fully intend to travel to Canada and back to the U.S. over Xmas with just my expired GC and my NOA. I never even gave any thought to the necessity of the stamp in my passport.

I don't anticipate having any problems whatsoever.

We just returned from a cruise to the Cayman Islands and Mexico. When we pulled into our last port, Key West, the immigration officials who came onboard checked my husband's passport and 12-month NOA extension letter and there were no problems whatsoever. Same thing happened when we returned home to Charleston. e-z-p-z
