I am currently in the states on my J-1 visa which expires on November 30. I do not have the 2 year requirement on my visa.

I really want to stay in the states. I have a boyfriend who I met while working here.

Is there any way for me to stay in the states in the meantime? If we get engaged, or maybe something else? What are my options?

Thank you!

Get married and adjust status.

However, if you're just getting married to get a green card, that's fraud.

That's not the case. They hired him at the hotel I worked at, and that's where I met him.

so lets say we get married, can I stay right away or do I have to go back?

or can we engage and then get married?

Thanks

Once you marry your US citizen boyfriend, you will need to get a green card to legally live in the US. To get the green card, you need to file to adjust your status.

Read the Guides. There's an outline of the entire process and approximate cost.

Do I need to do all of that while on my J1 visa? Lets say we get married and I stay. And my visa ended. Can I stay while the application is going trough? And when can I work is that when I actually get my visa?

Adjustment of status takes a while.

You CANNOT leave the US for a long time during the process.

I have no real advice on if you can work but I don't think it's for a while.

Read the guides like everyone else said.
